...and I'll be asleep. Ya know, that "early to bed, early to rise", thing.

I won't be able to see it because we've got severe thunderstorms flaring up everywhere.

Keeping my fingers crossed, vigorously knocking on wood and whatnot, the skies here are clear so far. And in spite of having to be up at 6am tomorrow, the Dob of Intimidation +2 will be in use. There are good sighting directions on S&T's website here.

Yeah, give me a call if the end of the world is near!

Seriously though, if any of you folks on the west coast see anything cool, PLEEEEASE post some photos!

Someday (like the day we win the Lotto! ), I'd like a scope to take pictures with. I love the Dob and will only give it up when they pry it from my cold hands, but the only pics I get from it are the ones I can carry in my memories.

(edited to add) A second scope would also preclude the ritual coin-toss to see who gets first shot. Hmmmm....my birthday's coming.....wonder if he'd consider.....

I'm far enough west but its been cloudy all day and it doesn't look like it's going to let up anytime soon.

The S&T article mentions two observatories that will be doing a live feed during the night

Things are looking good here. The skies are clearing out after scattered thermal t-storms, and the forecast for tonight is clear with temps in the 60s.

Per HNSKY Tempel 1 will be about 15° above the WSW horizon at the time of impact.

Since I have an unobstructed view of the western sky, I'll just set the scope up on the patio and see what I can see.

    Go Deep Impact!

Should've knocked harder on that wood--high, thin clouds moved in and large quantities of folks decided last night was the 4th. Way too many rockets and shells lighting everything up.
