    Cosmic Strings???Anyone know this?

I am talking about the "Cosmic Strings" theory, recently postulated, and also how the different dimensions are theorized to be flatly laid against each other, (looks like a lot of flat, long boxes, all touching sides)so that when something happens in one dimension, we feel it in our own. Anyone like to write about this current theory of cosmology? I would like to see how you think of it. (is this the right place for this type of theory?) Thanks so much, dorothyblueeyes :-({|=

    Welcome to the forum, dorothyblueeyes.

There have been a couple of threads that touched on string theory in the board. Here are a few:

The first proofs of String Theory?
    Alternate dimensions?? Planes of Reality??
Article: Finding the Ultimate Theory of Everything

You can find many more with the forum search function. Enjoy.

We've had a number of talks on superstring cosmology here, but if you have any specific questions about it I'm sure we can try to discuss it more in depth.

Hmmmm - isn't it that cosmic strings are something quite different from the strings of string theory - The former being giant "breaks" in spacetime with tremendous gravity (an attempt to account for dark matter) and the latter being the supersubmicrocopic building blocks of all particles?

Superstrngs may have cousins--two-D domain-walls and three-D textures.

I wonder if you could land on a texture and live...

I doubt it. I wonder what one would look like.

cosmic strings are not different from the superdoopersubminimicroscopic strings. They have the same properties, and are postulated to have existed in the early universe before degenerating (im not sure what the correct term is) into smaller strings. The idea is that maybe some of these strings may have survived in some remote part of the universe, so detecting them could go a long way towards confirming the correctness of string theory.
