Thread: What is this Object?

    What is this Object?

I found it on a beach in either North or South Carolina a number of years ago. Looks kind of like a tooth to me, but I could just be seeing things. It seems to definitely be made of stone, and it certainly doesn't look like someone carved it out.

Sorry for the poor quality of the large images. My digital camera doesn't like zooming in that close to something that small.

It looks like some kind of seed to me.

It could be a fossil. Clearer images would help :P

It looks like an arrow head to me, not yet finished. That's just from the photo's posted.

Fossil internal cast/mold (sorry I get them confused) of a bivalve. I have a pile of the things in my office. They vary taxonomically and in geologic age... yours is probably Cenozoic if it came off a beach in the Carolinas.

    Good work!

It would be a casting, the mold was the bivalve's shells.

Time to drag out my Crinoid fossils to see if you can date them!

Neat, I never seem to find anything cool. Even the buckeyes I've found are usually rotten or cracked.
