Took a drive out around rural Austin this afternoon. Saw this in someone's backyard along roadside.
Ah, it must be nice to take a step out one's backyard door to a private observatory.

I don't know those people, but just how of sheer jealousy, I truly hate them. (Wonder how much that set-up cost. Hmmmm)
My problem: The meteors should be starting up in an hour or two. It is totally clear here. I was going to hit the hot tub with a cold brew and enjoy the show. Then I run into a friend of mine. She says her daughter has invited a bunch of friends over, and would I like to join them. Oh, and if I feel like dropping by, maybe I could bring my scope? ::sigh:: I'll probably do the "right thing", but dang! Now I have to dig out my long underwear instead of a bathing suit. Sometimes life ain't fair, you know that?

Lisa--Well, here in Eugene Oregon it's mostly overcast, although a couple of stars were peeking through just now when I stepped outside. Count your blessings.

There's a real estate ad in this month's Astronomy magazine that's offering a house near Palm Springs, CA, with its own private observatory on the roof of a guest house, complete with a 24" Byers Cassegrain telescope. If you're interested, the price is a mere $1,195,000.

Yumpin'-yimminy!
Think I'll stick to my little Edmund 6" reflector for just a while longer.

Altho with near a couple of hundred of members listed here, we could divy up the price for a swingin' BA kind of a pad!
What do you think Phil?

I wouldn't be jealous unless it turned out that they had no interest in astronomy, and were using the observatory building to store stuff in.

Knowing Texans, it's probably duo-purpose - a fancy bar-b-que during the day and a observatory for the night!

Now now...I know some very wise Texans...however, that would explain why the eyepieces I borrowed at the last Texas Star Party had barbeque sauce on them.
