We should all be grateful to the BA.....

and not take things for granted here. This is the best board I have ever seen and this is thanks to the BA, who though a very busy person, nevertheless finds the time to keep an eye on the forums here.

I was on another forum, which was very nice and peaceful, astronaut Edgar Mitchell's forum, where one could discuss, for example, fringe subjects such as ufos in a serious fashion, but is no subject to an invasion of woo woos injecting cattle mutilation, reptillians and other tabloid nonsense into the ufo forum. The whole thing started a couple of months back, when a mufon investigator joined up and Jim Oberg and others pulled her down to earth, so that she left the forum angrily. She must have informed other ufo woo woos, because now there is an invasion of them, and there is absolutely no moderator to keep things from getting out of hand.

Bottom line: This is a great place to be, and thank you BA for making it so!

Yeah, this is true. Even when things get a bit uncivil here at times, that uncivility is still 100x better than the sheer nastiness I've seen on other forums. I think the posters who have been here a long time have a lot to do with it, too, and they are too intelligent to put up with nonsense. And this is all good, because bad forums can really bring a person down--I have been no stranger to flame wars and I hate when it happens--you feel like you've been posting in the slums of the Internet.

In short, as the adage goes: You can't soar with the eagles, if you run with the turkeys.

BTW, ghzpcu, I still have your Venetian winged lions. It seems that I steal first and ask later, , but I saved it for my own reference. Hope that's OK. Have you done anything more? :

    Edit: but to bit

    Grendl,
Glad you liked my winged lion. I have done tons of paintings, mostly leopards, black panthers and tigers with backgrounds ranging from the Taj Mahal to Kathmandu. I have been painting since the age of 5.... and always big cats...

I'm very grateful for the safe harbor here at Bad Astronomy. Kudos to the BA! 8)

Meanwhile, over on Dr. Mitchell's forum, it appears that the Raelians have landed!

BABB is a nice place, it has rules that are strictly enforced but still it's a fairly relaxed place (most probably because of those rules )

I joined another science board called physlink. The atmosphere there is much more formal, there because it's a board for educators and profesionals in the field. They also have IMO much more strict rules (due to the nature of the board of course)

So Kudos for the BA! he runs a tight ship yet with a relaxed atmosphere

I am thankful to the BA, as this site is a great place to debunk woo-woo nonsense. In the college where I study many people believe in conspiracies and woo-woo stuff. This site has given me many answers to give them. Thanks Phil and fellows! I really appreciate your help.

The second one has a wink at the end.

    Oh yes indeed!

Possibly he hit submit, wanted to add the wink, stopped, added the wink and submitted again. I've had double posts this way too.

Well, there's nothing wrong with thanking him again, is there?

We are always greatful to our lord BA. Another forum I lurk at (not post because you have to pay), airliners.net is frequently plagued with ever so bigotted A vs B wars. On this forum, I can suggest Skycow as a name for the A380 without getting flamed as an A380 basher despite others not liking it so much.

  15. #15
..not liking it at all, except for the cargo version And I stick to the A vs B war part that's fought by the companies themselves in the form of commercial lectures .

We've got a nice place inhere indeed, where different opinions and discussions about them are possible without ruining the atmosphere.

Oh I think there've been more brown nosing threads. The atmosphere was changed somewhat by the St. Paddy's Day scandal, but BA's recent playfulness has helped the recovery.
