    Mayan Information

I have been talking to several people who believe a catastrophe will happen in 2012. Some of them say mayans talked about a "cleansing" which they say: cleansing: disaster. Others say the mayans thought of a "change". Some even say the mayans thought the whole universe was cyclical, "thanks a lot Discovery, National Geographic or History Channel, I am not sure which one showed a documentary that said that. #-o

Well, Could anyone tell me of any links where I can read mayan texts or writings? I want to check what they really said, since many Woo-woos claim different things. I have googled and searched but I have only found woo-woo sites who show no proof of what actual mayan writings said.

I came across this article a while back. It is quite interesting.

Thanks for the link. The article explains the relation of the precession of the equinoxes with the Mayan calendar. However, I was wondering if someone knew of the Mayan texts that say either: cleansing, change or end of universe.

Also, the guy in the link supports McKenna and his "timewave zero"

Collegeguy-Forget reading anything by Jenkins. IMO, he mixes facts with tenuous speculation and New Age ideas. Here is a well-balanced site about the Mayan (and not woo-woo):
http://members.shaw.ca/mjfinley/mainmaya.html with particular attention to this page http://members.shaw.ca/mjfinley/tzolkin.html
The Mayan (of the past) are probably rolling in their graves or ROFLTAO at what the "white man" of the 21st century is saying about them now!

Ah, a 21st century version of "Montezuma's Revenge"! How appropriate!

(yeah, I know he was an Aztec, but still...)

collegeguy, remember a couple of things:

    1. this "timewave zero" thing is just... gibberish. Word salad. It's not even coherent enough to be wrong.

    2. The Mayans are still around. Granted they wear blue jeans, drive cars, etc., like their fellow Mexicans, but there seems to be no great sense of urgency, or even anticipation, among them concerning 2012. Doesn't that tell you something?

I am sorry for bringing up this thread again, but a while back someone mentioned that the Mayans had a prophecy mentioning that 13 baktuns after the creation of Venus, the world was supposed to end catastrophically. I have googled but not found it. Is it true? Also, somebody in this forum mentioned that the king of Palenque had expected something in the year 4772. could anyone hep me with this info?

Considering Venus was created before any life existed on the planet at all, I'd say whoever stated that was full of it.

    From this website: http://home.att.net/~thehessians/MayanCalendar.html
    We read about King Pacal:
The Maya millennium comes 5,126 years after the creation, which, by their reckoning, occurred precisely on August 11, 3114 B.C. But we probably shouldn't worry too much about this, since Pacal, the most famous ruler of Palenque, confidently predicted that his accession would be commemorated on October 15 in A.D. 4772 (Gregorian time).

Thamks for the link, although it has another link to a propaganda of a woo-woo book. It promotes the "pole-shift" idea.

Suffice to say, 99% of the sites you'll find about Mayan prophecies are woo-woo.

Well, i had the pleasure of reading mr. Hancock's "Footstepts of Gods" recently.

According to him (and i'd like to think that he got at least THAT straight) there were 4 other periods before current one. Each ended with global disaster that almost exterminated the mankind. I remember seeing this before somewhere else as well.

Now, instead of looking ahead and worring ourselves sick, let's look back to the beginning of Mayan calendar- ie the time the humanity was almost exterminated the last time. As 2001Intrepid mentioned, the presice date was 11th Aug, 3114BC. Now, here comes the problem... how was life on Earth annihilated at that date? No volcanoes, no massive storms, no strange planets, no evidence whatsoever about globar disasters. So, we can conculde that humanity was almost exterminated due to intense boredom since nuttin' was happenin'. Lucily someone discovered a deck of cards and thus, a disaster was avoided! Let's all bow our heads to the unknown genius.

Now, Hancock manages to contradict himself several times on that account- claiming that several buildings, places, shpinxes, pyramides etc etc are actually older that the "date when the world ended... again". Basically, he wants us to believe that Giza pyramids survived the global disaster that almost made mankind extinct without any visible damage.

Actually, come to think of it, if the Mayan calendar has the "end dates" on similar settings- ie end happens every 5,126 years, then we'd had to conclude that 12 000 years old pyramids actaully survived 2, not one global disasters, one happening in 3114 and another one in 8240 BC.

So, either these ancient Atlantians or aliens really knew how to build or we can sleep without worries. Take your bets, gentlemen

Isn't that Fingerprints of the Gods?

IMHO, the date of 3130BCE, or thereabouts, coincides not with the "creation" of Mankind, but when "Wisdom was lowered from Heaven;" you know, when Civilization and Kingship were bestowed on Mankind by the Gods?

Aye, probably it is. "Lost in translation"- translated that way to my native language and silly me translated it back. Should have checked.

Well, there are several theories, take your pick. One for everyone!

I'm currently talking about the one with Mayan calendar cycles- and the fact that according to them, there have been 4 thus far, ours is 5th, all cycles before ended in distaster.

But, as i said, take your pick. :P
