Death Charged in Theft From Cemetery

Death Charged in Theft From Cemetery
His name is Death, and prosecutors say he stole from a cemetery. Donald Death Jr., 60, of Locust Valley, was arraigned Wednesday on charges he stole nearly $300,000 from the Locust Valley Cemetery Association on Long Island.

Death, who is the chairman and assistant treasurer of the cemetery association, pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree grand larceny and one count of third-degree grand larceny for allegedly using cemetery funds for his own purposes, a spokeswoman for Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon said in a statement.

Death was released on his own recognizance and was ordered back to court April 6. If convicted he would face up to 15 years in prison.
Now, if I had a last name like that, I would've become a doctor. 8-[

Isn't it weird, how some people go into a business related to their surname? :P

In high school, the father of a friend of my sister's was a doctor. The family name was Butcher. Fortunately he wasn't a surgeon.

I have some ancestors named "Death." I thought it was cool until someone told me it was pronounced "Deeth". I have yet to corroborate that yet though...

There was a nurse my dad worked with in the Air Force whose last name was Major. At that time, her rank was also Major, so she was Major Major.

I once encountered an administrator at a prep school (a Dean or a Vice-Principal or something) named Mr. DeMerit! I bet the kids were terrified of him.

The former head of the physics department here at USAFA was Colonel Head.

I have heard that he has a brother who is also an AF colonel by the name of Richard. That means he was once a major...

When my wife worked for the insurance company, she paid dental claims. She had a dentist named Dr. Payne, and another called Dr. Toothaker. (Not sure how that was spelled!)

OK, one more. I once worked with a Navy officer named Captain Marvell. Then there was Dr. Cocagne, the dentist I went to when I was in college.

My dentist (of 30 years) in Lafayette, IN, was Dr. Challgren (pronounced shall grin). Fabulous dentist, my teeth are perfect and no braces.

We have a Captain Kirk, pilot for United. There is also a lady named C. Butz - she should have been a protologist. Now, she just analyzes flight capacity. Everytime I see her name, I think of C. Moore Butz. 8-[

If Death gets put away for 15 years, won't the world be facing a terrible overpopulation problem?

In my hometown we had a family called Deadman. They ran a funeral home.

And of course, they named it... Deadman's Funeral Home. Then the son took over and decided that maybe they ought to rethink the name.

if Death goes away, does that mean we get Death of Rats? (SQUEAK.)

and yes, according to the Dorothy L. Sayers novels, most people pronounce the name to rhyme w/teeth, though the character who has the name says it's much more entertaining if you pronounce it to rhyme w/breath.

A friend of mine knows a Dr. Death in Scotland.

I knew of a physician named Dr. Coffin, on staff at a hospital I worked at in 1990.

Imagine that: "The physicians will be Dr. Death and Dr. Coffin. Now try to relax for your surgery..."
