New Microsoft MSN Search Engine -- More Precise

Microsoft's new MSN Search engine is more precise.

    More Precise MSN Search Engine

One of the examples on that page is the query: What is the mass of Jupiter?

Answer: Jupiter: mass: 318 Earth masses

An article in the Computer Risks Forum points out that one might wonder what an Earth-mass is.

Query: What is the mass of Earth?

Answer: World: mass: 1 Earth masses

    Precisely.

They give three examples of how they are better, and the first one (who shot Abraham Lincoln) gives as the first result The Lincoln Kennedy coincidence. Now that's not what I wanted when I asked that question, some silly urban legend type of thing...

The problem seems to be that being in Belgium, I get Belgian pages first. I have not toggled to get pages in my language or from my country, but it happens anyway.
The page with the Jupiter question gives as result this one, which starts with 'Jupiter has more than twice the weight of all the other planets together' (emphasis mine).
Oh, and a kinkajou is a toy shop in Kraainem.

    I'm not impressed... #-o #-o #-o

That language thing is really, really stupid!! I can't give all sites the same priority. It always takes Dutch sites first. (not belgian here, mind. How does it know I'm in the netherlands? My PC is set as Belgium). The only way not to give Dutch sites priority is to set the search tool in English, and check "search only in English". But then i loose all the results in other languages. #-o #-o #-o

Microsoft, just add 1 tiny little option called "no language priority". Takes 1 line of code to disable that priority function.

Apart from that, I haven't really gotten better search results than with google yet. But with this priority thing, I really can't compare.

    I'm awaiting a revisited version...

And it doesn't get better with the other options. 'Encarta answers' doesn't look in Encarta at all, the capital of Sweden gives me GE Capital, Sweden as result .
'Music search': 'song: like a virgin' gives me a Daily horoscope [-X

They aren't all that bad, but it still is a poor result...

You need to have some experience with google to get the results you want, but this no-nonsense approach suits me: it is predictable. The MSN search concept is good, if it would work good. Let's hope for improvements.

It'll probably be acceptable after you have installed Service Pack 3

It knows you are in the Netherlands by your IP address, I guess.

lol this one is much better. You folks should have seen the earlier beta. If you searched for "Satan is evil" (or other similar statements) you used to get in the first few search results links to Google and Firefox

Thank you whoever followed the link. I've arrived at this BB thanks to the referer log. I've now corrected the statement, thanks. Fram, you could also have stated the translation was also yours. I've spend a few minutes searching the english version for this error, before I discovered the english version was correct.

p.s. astronomy.technetium.be isn't a Belgium site, I'm Dutch, I'm using the .be tld because I am (to be) TC.

Sorry, I hadn't realised that there was also an English version, I was just checking out if the MSN Search really brought me to the right results immediately, and that wasn't true (although yours was at least a to the point website, unlike many others I was referred to). I translated it because most people here don't speak Dutch And I'm glad I've brought a new member to the BB, I hope you'll like it here.

Saying that Microsquash is more precise is like saying a jackhammer is more precise than dynamite for dentistry.
