Not exactly a Bad Movies topic, but plenty of bad (and funny) science in it. I've just discovered an online version of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy computer text game! Of course it's on Douglas Adams' own site.

Some of these old text-based games were better than the graphic-oriented ones of today, and this is one of the best. I tried playing this game last year (using an apple IIc emulator) and it's a hoot. Didn't get very far though. You really need a version that you can save and replay scenes again and again.

If you want, you can download the java file itself, which is basically an infocom interpreter and the game stuck in a .jar (which is just a zip?) file. Grab the game (something.z5), and then you can play it with your own infocom interpreter.

And yes, it is a strange and difficult game.

Hmm... never mind that bit about the jar file. It looks like the infocom file is downloadable separately.

Ok, I'll let you in on my little secret. Go to this page: http://www.classicgaming.com/vault/appleemu.shtml and pick up an Apple II emulator program. The AppleWin program works best for Windows.

Then go to the game vault and grab the disk image for HHGTTG here: http://www.classicgaming.com/vault/r...axy33408.shtml . Open it up with the emulator and have fun.

And when you're done, go back and try some of the other games. Get different emulators to play a whole host of old arcade games just like you used to play.

(But as a possible warning I've been having problems getting the program to save my game. It was working before. But I can't figure it out now. It may be something to do with my Japanese version OS.)
