    Super Bowl XXXIX

Fox Nixes Ad Showing Mickey Rooney's Rear

Mickey Rooney's bare end zone won't be part of the Super Bowl advertising blitz, Fox TV said Friday. The network rejected a cold remedy commercial that includes a brief shot of the 84-year-old actor's behind, said Fox Sports spokesman Lou D'Ermilio.
    Judy Garland saw it!

    BABB needs some life tonight!

    Current and former Mrs. Rooney's:

'January (Jan) Chamberlin' (1978 - present)
    'Carolyn Hockett' (1969 - 1974) (divorced)
'Marge Lane' (1967 - 1967) (divorced after only 100 days)
    'Barbara Ann Thomason' (1958 - 1966) (murdered)
    'Elaine Mahnken' (1952 - 1958) (divorced)
    Martha Vickers (1948 - 1951) (divorced)
    'Betty Jane Rase' (1944 - 1948) (divorced)
Ava Gardner (January 1942 - May 1943) (divorced)

I wonder why I thought he had been married to Judy Garland. :-k

It's actually "29" for the Chargers. 29 more weeks until their next football game, during the exhibition season.

Of course I said 'yes'. Let the Mick have some fun.

Besides, I'd really LOVE to hear complaints to the FCC about it.

    Hopefully, bare.
    Perhaps runnin' bare:

    RUNNING BEAR
    (J.P. Richardson)
    Johnny Preston (Mercury 71474, 1959)

On the banks of the river
Stood Runnin' Bear, young Indian brave
On the other side of the river
    Stood his lovely Indian maid
Little White Dove was-a her name
Such a lovely sight to see
But their tribes fought with each other
So their love could never be

Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love big as the sky
Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love that couldn't die

He couldn't swim the raging river
'Cause the river was too wide
He couldn't reach Little White Dove
    Waiting on the other side
In the moonlight he could see her
    Throwing kisses 'cross the waves
Her little heart was beating faster
    Waiting there for her brave

Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love big as the sky
Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love that couldn't die

Runnin' Bear dove in the water
Little White Dove did the same
And they swam out to each other
Through the swirling stream they came
As their hands touched and their lips met
The ragin' river pulled them down
    Now they'll always be together
    In that happy hunting ground

Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love big as the sky
Runnin' Bear loved Little White Dove
With a love that couldn't die.
    Guess Who?

Rooney Butt, Rooney Butt. Hey we got rights y'know. Is this AMerica or some kinda gulag? I think ANdy took out a Colonial Penn policy on that butt. Michael Powell is gone, so now we should get Rooney Butt.

Go Falcons! Oh wait, they're already out.

My flatmate is a proper gambler and he got this great tip off the night before the last game Atlanta won before being knocked out. Basically, the odds given for Atlanta winning the Superbowl were 12:1. So if he bet £50 on the Falcons, he could stand to make £550. However, if they didn't win, he's out £50. But the tipoff he got said it was a pretty much sure thing that Atlanta would win that game that night and in which case, the odds would go up to 6:1.

After that, he could lay the bet, which means that essentially the gambler and the dealer are reversed. If Matt laid £50 on Atlanta, then if they lost, he would get £50. However, if they won, he would have to pay a penalty of the lay times the odds of them winning. So basically, after that sure thing game, he lays Atlanta with odds of 6:1. This means that if Atlanta won, he would have to pay a penalty of £300.

However, he had already bet before on them winning with odds of 12:1, which means a profit of £550. So that means that if Atlanta won, then he would, after all the gambling gymnastics, be up £250. Not bad.

If they lost, he would get £50 because of the lay, which would cover the £50 he bet on Atlanta winning so he would breakeven.

Therefore, what was neat about this was that after the initial risk of that first game (I think it was the quarter finals), there would be nothing to lose. If Atlanta lost, he loses nothing overall, if they win, he's up £250. It was basically a case of sacrificing a bit of winnings to CYA.

I heard about another ad that was dropped. It was for some beer, I think Budweiser. They were going to show this stagehand backstage with a bottle of beer, looking for an opener. He can't find one, so he takes this costume with some buckles on it and tries to use a buckle to open the bottle. He rips the costume, looks around, and puts it back on the rack. Of course the costume is Janet Jackson's from last years halftime show.

I thought that was pretty funny, but they chickened out and decided not to use it.

By the way, I just realized that I passed kilo-e in the past few days (1000 times the base of the natural log). Hey, if kilo-pi is so great, why no kilo-e?

Ifilm.com already has a page up for the superbowl ads once they've been aired. They also have the ones that were banned. The page is here

Anybody know why the NFL won't allow the Wynn hotel ad to be shown?
