Last night I listened to C2C callers on my way home from work. There was one who wondered if George had any guests who could talk about astronomical phenomena. George said there was only one guy who could address that subject, I forget the name George popped off, but it wasn't Phil Plait.

Here is the list of Cdn radio stations that carry the show. Looks like Ont. and west are pretty well covered. I should think most websites would have a "listen live" feature. If not just tune in on radio. Looks like Hoagland is scheduled for the second half-hour...

That was good. No matter how much Norm, uh, George attempted to sensationalize the close approach, Phil kept things well within the area of reasonableness and calm. Great job, Phil! Too bad you didn't have more time, and it doesn't sit well that the rest of the show will be Hoagland by-products.
Also one of the commercials was for that bogus star registry outfit ripping folks off $54 at a time. I had hoped they had been closed down by now. At least Noory was on good behavior for a half hour.
BTW, per the IAU Central Bureau, D/1770 L1 (Lexell) has the closest approach of a comet to Earth, 0.0151 AU on July 1.7 (TT) 1770.

oh my lord... THIS guy is a scientist?! I'm just a weenie biologist, but even my crude exoplanetary knowledge cringes at the stuff this guy is saying. He sounds like a phrenologist... the folks that interpret bumps on peoples' heads.
This guy shouldn't be permitted to speak on public broadcasts. He's making the listeners dumber.
I've never listened to this radio show before. Is it normal to put crackpots on the air?

So what's the deal with the "unexplained" increases in the power provided by the solar panels? I really don't think there are "thunderstorms" washing them off and the "friendly martian" idea seems childish to me.

Weather, in a word, was what we were told at a talk here a couple months ago. With wind, dust storms, dust devils, etc., there's no reason that the dust on the panels can't be blown off by a windstorm on occasion.So what's the deal with the "unexplained" increases in the power provided by the solar panels?
