    Bring Back Beefy Bovril

This one is really for fellow UK posters

If you like Bovril, See this link

They have changed the formula of Bovril, once a nice warming Beef stock drink, that could also be spread on toast, so it is ok for veggies.

Why can not Unilever make a form of Marmite for Veggies. I like Marmite and so do Veggies. There is no need for this tampering.

So I ask fellow UK posters, plus any from elswhere also concerned, get in touch with Unilever and ask them to

    Bring Back Beefy Bovril

They could follow the lead from Cocoa Cola, and launch Bovril Classic

    It's pathetic isn't it? Why can't veggies stick to vegimite? :x :x

I wonder if the veggies actually asked for this.

Unilever could bring out a veggie Bovril and still keep our traditional fayre. They are not mutually exclusive.

After all they do do a Chicken Bovril

You mean your not excited about trying the new "savoury yeast mix " that "50%" found more prefferable?

    Savoury yeast mix indeed, yuck.

Not really bothered as I don't like either Bovril or VegiMite. Just so long as they leave L&P Worcester sauce alone.

(Try the Lee & Perrins urban myth test).

Got 7/10. I agree they must not change it in any way.

Noooo!! I grew up on Bovril! What do they think they are doing...

Actually, provided the taste is still good, I'm not that bothered. I like it for the taste not just for the fact that it's got cow in it. Incidentally, I never use it as a drink - I spread it in sandwiches, like we do with Marmite. But then perhaps I'm a bit weird...

I spread either Marmite or Bovril on toast or bread rolls as well. Sometimes I use Matzo crackers.

BTW I have put a simple and basic forum up on my Bring Back Beefy Bovril site

Got a 9. Can't believe that bit about the fellows not getting colds.

L&P cannot be changed. It's a key ingredient in my chile.

I was discussing this at work with a colleague

So I thought I would re-post this link

There is suggestion of some kind of protest.

My thoughts would be to try and aquire shares in Unilever so the protest could be taken to a share holders meeting.

Is that tactic ever successful? :-?

Buying shares, or even a share, would get you into the AGM and would allow you to question the board. It is best to do that in a rational manner rather than by showboating. Shares are presently about a fiver each, dealing costs to buy should be about £20-30. This is NOT investment advice. 8-[

The tactic can be successful if you can get media interest, so coupling it with a peaceful demonstration outside is a good idea. Prime the media in advance and hope it is a slow news day.

Of course, since this info comes from a vegetarian you may think I'm part of the conspiracy!

I made something of a discovery about the manufacturers of Bovril, Unilever.

There claimed that now world wide they export their "veggie bovril"

I discovered that was not quite correct in a local discount store that was selling Beefy Bovril, apparantly made in south Africa

More details on this site now updated.

There were protests at Unilevers AGM this year, you would have had to compete with this lot .

The share price is up 16%, maybe you should have bought some........

since you have 4 B's in Bring Back Beefy Bovril you could have the slogan "Do you remember what it tasted like B4"

I'm as vegi now but I do remember eating some Bovril when I was a kid and I look longingly at the Bovril jars these days but I bet it tastes no better than Marmite.

Sorry to ressurect this topic, but this is breaking news

About time too, but some people may have got to like Veggie Bovril and I do not see why we can not have the three varieties, assuming they still do Chicken Bovril, of Beef, Chicken and Veggie.

BTW a Sunday newspaper has asked me to write a piece about the Bovril saga, which I have now e-mailed across so am now waiting to see if they like it.

I've come to this thread late but I really can't see why Bovril messed around in the first place. As a veggie, I am quite happy with Marmite.

There can't be that many veggies out there saying "Well Marmite's OK but I really wish I could have Bovril instead". Veggies eat Marmite, carnivores eat Bovril, that's just the way it is

Dunno what Bovril is,but I bought some Marmite & my dogs won't touch it...

Yay! See what your website has achieved!
I've had Bovril in the past before I was a veggie & I have Marmite now. I can't remember much difference in taste so I'm with Sp1ke on the issue (btw, they messed around because of the whole BSG issue at the time).
Of course that won't stop the Aussies bemoaning the lack of vegemite over here ...

I have now updated the Bring back Beefy Bovril site, and placed on that site a scanned copy of the article I wrote for today's Sunday Post. I did say to them I wanted to do this and they were happy to let me do that, so there is no copyright violation issue.

Heck, we get it here, if you go to the right store! (That store specifically is the World Market down the street from my apartment, which has a great foreign food section.)

Personally, I’m a beef stew man. Homemade, with lots of root veg and a good stock is tops.
Beef stew for breakfast; it sets you up for the day - yum.

They will make what sells the most, if sales of Non beef Bovril are up they wont care what you want.

    Good article Sticks!

Personally, I've never been much of a fan of any of them on bread/toast, but as a drink Marmite is YUM! Especially with a big dash of Tobasco, some L&P Worcester sauce & a tiny drop of soy sauce

I'm just a bit peeved because I've had to wander to a different section of my supermarket these last years to find Marmite as opposed to Bovril and NEVER knew till now they'd made Bovril veggie DOH, DOH,

I have bumped this thread for two reasons

    1) the original Bring Back Beefy Bovril site is one of a number of websites hosted on beeb.net that will vanish at the end of the month because the BBC has decided to pull the plug on Beeb.net so I had to ammend the links to point at it's new home on my Blueyonder website, here

    2) I discovered I was blogged about back in February here

No point looking for veggie Bovril as L&P has anchovies in it.
