    Google Star Trek Logo

Google's logo today honors the 40th anniversary of Star Trek. (I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned before now.)

46th. Google has a tendency to play with unusual number anniversaries.

A day early, too, aren't they?

EDIT: This year is the 25th Anniversary of the premiere of TNG, but that's not for three weeks.

If you click on different outlined parts of the logo, you can see or hear different effects-- if you use up the ones on the main logo, they take you to the transporter room to "beam down" a couple of letters.

The "glamorous Uhura shot" and the "weeping redshirt" are my favorite bits.

Yeah, yeah. 46. Like you've never hit the wrong key before.

I was showing it to our daughter. When it got to the transporter scene, she asked, "Why is the little red guy crying?" "What color is he?" ... "Oh."

I hope this is one of the ones to make it into the archives with all fiddly bits intact. I wish the archive would also link to an explanation of what the various doodles are about, especially since it shows the international ones, too.

On the 25th anniversary of the Original Series, we got Star Trek VI. The apple has fallen far.

I liked the red-shirt. He must have been Wile E. Coyete in a past life.

Where were they? My father and I were playing with the doodle during a phone call yesterday, but neither of us found the tribbles.

In the transporter room... Remember how Kirk opened an overhead storage hatch?

And they obviously didn't do anything much in between the two.

Thanks, guys. I found one of those Youtube walk-throughs. Can't believe I missed the storage bin. I might have to change my avatar now.
