I think a good place to start is with the research done by people like Alvin Weinberg and others at ORNL in the 1950s and 1960s.

Also Richard Martin has written a book detailing a lot of this history and current development around the thorium fuel cycle called Superfuel.

There's also the Energy From Thorium website which is affiliated with a private sector company that is trying to commercialize LFTRs so keep that in mind when visiting there.
