    Jon Lord dies.

Founding member of Deep Purple, keyboardist Jon Lord, has died of pancreatic cancer. He was 71. link.

Lord's "monster" hammond sound was synonomous with 70's rock. Saw him with Purple 3 times back in the 70's/80's. Always a great show.

What I, personally, consider his "crowning achievement", the Concerto for Group and Orchestra is available on Netflix.

Rest in Peace, Jon...say "hi" to Ronnie for us.

RIP! I'll be cranking 'Highway Star' in memorium...and maybe the whole Made in Japan album!

I haven't listened to Lord's Concerto or his Gemini Suite in a while...have to give those a re-listen as well.

    And I miss DIO too!

My favorite Lord solo is from the song, Highball Shooter off of the Stormbringer album. It's only a minute long...I would "play it" on the dash board of my car with one hand, while driving with the other.....good memories.

Can't think of a better way to spend the day...

I consider it "fortunate" that he left such a body of work...and he never lost his voice...even into his 60's.

I have the 'Heaven and Hell' concert DVD Live from Radio City Music Hall, he sounds incredible in that. I believe that was filmed before his cancer diagnosis. Great singer, one of the best of the genre IMO.

I wonder if my mint vinyl "Burn" just increased in value ...
Where the telescope ends, the microscope begins. Which of the two has the greater view?

Sorry to have to tell ya this, but we all have that album...you'll make no money off the death of Jon Lord.

He really did find a "home" with Tony.....

There was so much more music......we'll never see....

Oh, and anyone who wants my Holy Diver album...I'll give it to them absolutely FREE....as long as you are not a.dim

Concert for Group and Orchestra was overblown I think. Not even in my collection. Now. stuff like Highway Star, Child in Time that rocks.

While sad his death wasn't a shock, he was 71.. It's something we are going to see quite often over the next few years I think. All the 60s generation are getting on.

Tony Iommi is very unwell, Bill Ward isn't a well man either.. Ringo Starr is 72, Bob Dylan is 71

I want to publicly apologize to the board membership in general, and A.DIM in particular for the above... It was simply uncalled for.

Of course I agree, and disagree.

It's just personal opinion, the "appeal" of "Concerto" is when it was released. At that time, no "rock" band had ever attempted combining orchestra, and band...

Now a days...it's not so "unique"...

While sad his death wasn't a shock, he was 71...
...and i also knew he had cancer, so not a "big" shock.

    You can't "cheat" death.

    I did not know that...sad...

According to this, it was more about being "unwilling" as opposed to unable.

But I can see his point, particularly if he had been "taken advantage of", previously.
