    Isn't 38 forums a bit much?

Seems to take forever just to scroll through the list. Just saying. Couldn't a lot of them be merged together as they are pretty similar. I know its a new forum but maybe once its been up and running awhile you could blend the least popular ones or something. I'm only operating a notebook which has a small screen so its doubly long for me. I only have a few small solar panels so a small computer is more practical as it consumes far less power.

Some of these forums are extremely specialised. Narrow subjects don't usually elicit much responce.

There are some forums that are clearly duplicates and will go away entirely. We're also looking at consolidating some of the less-active forums and re-ordering things so the broader, more active forums are more toward the top. But I don't want to make any significant chances to the overall structure until the bug-fixing has settled down.

You can "collapse" the forum sections you are not interested in by pressing the little arrow on the right side of the forum header.

    That's what I did.

And yet 10 minutes later you ask to have another one added? I suppose anything goes in parallel universes :)

Actually, it's not. Despite a few migrations and name-changes, the forum has been around for at least at least 12 years. With the latest migration some sections were absorbed that are quite a bit newer though.

Well, if he wants a forum added, he needs to make "room".

I was wondering if anyone would spot that. The irony occured to me as I was posting the suggestion. Multiverse theories are growing and I find it an exciting topic. There is a whole forum dedicated to mapping a moon. Perfectly good idea ofcourse as its OUR moon. Its proximity makes it the most important astronomical body other than the earth and sun(from our perspective). Cosmology is unarguably important but only deals with the creation and evolution of a single universe. I can't think of a more exciting or cutting edge astronomoical subject than the multiverse. Hence my name. Anyway... I'm wandering. Glad to hear you are way ahead of me and just waiting for the glitches to settle down.

I remember when this forum was created 13 years ago. Seems like yesterday. I was referring to this most recent incarnation. Long name but I like it.

Please forgive me for saying so, but I was just thinking the same thing about a forum subsection devoted to parallel universes.

I missed that one. Being away for awhile I haven't fully aquainted myself with all the forums yet. I find the creation of the multiverse and interactions between universes far more interesting than parallel universes on their own. Most of them are going to be pretty much the same as this one but in a different stage I guess. Better go look at this forum subsection if I can find it.

Just because you, personally, find something exciting doesn't mean everyone else does. I'm much more interested in what we can prove exists than in the hypothetical.

Well, I have noticed that when I checked the forums for the first time, but then I realized that each forum has its own purpose..
Anyway, according to ToSeek things will be sorted out, but I don't see any problem in the current situation.

38? Does sound like a lot. The reason forums are usually created is to take some of the pressure off chaotically busy forums. People lose threads and have to scroll back back several pages to resume a conversation. Many of the forums here are practically dead. The problem is merging them with unrelated forums. Introductions and feedback sort of go together but others don't.

It's actually down to 35 at this point, and at least 4 of those are special-purpose ones stuck at the end, which I hope make them easy to ignore.

on other forums i have been on there was a way to view just the threads you had created or posted on - does this site have one? and if not it might be a useful tool to allow users to navigate to where they want to be quickly

I think that, by default, you are subscribed to threads you post to. You can then see any updates to these threads by going to the settings page: http://cosmoquest.org/forum/usercp.php

You can change the automatic subscription settings from here as well (click the General Settings link then scroll down to the "Default Thread Subscription Mode" option).
