There were moderators on the UT side before I became one... I seem to remember that there was some question about actually writing down rules. As much as PetersCreek recalls chiseling, we were fortunate enough to have cuneiform reeds and soft terracotta to record things in. ToSeek can probably tell you something about moderator life on the BA side from the days before recorded history.

Yes. I'm starting out with the admin subsection. When I'm done deleting all the spam, profanity, and other unspeakable things, and banned all the offending posters there, I'll start on the public sections. But it'll be years before I get to that.

At this other forum I post at, under another name, you have to be 18 or over to register and they have no language filter. And they need to inforce the decorum rules a lot. Remarkably similar to the rules here. With a couple of notable exceptions and a few odd additions.Thanks, and I was counting on you for that!
One of the rules this one guy broke was putting up a long multiparagragh post completely written in Hollywood inner-city speak AKA he spelled everything wrong correctly. One of the senior moderators came back with: "Why don't you learn how to speak, you ignorant"...and ,well, dropped the n-bomb.
All I thought was:
"I'm never getting banned here, if that's the margin!"
and then this thread came up where, I promise, I was only a smart alec in. That was "What did or didn't constitute homosexual behavior?" Living in San Francisco one notices things and I made some observatons. Something technically not against the rules here either.
Two hours and six loooong pages later, the admins locked the thread and banned EVERYBODY who participated in for a week, just so they wouldn't have to read through all the pathos.
I'll try not to do that to you.

I don't know.. woke up with a headache one day, and that little plus was there. TheOncomingStorm: Perhaps.. it does feel a little weird to become a Mod, in what well might be the last week of BAUT as we know it. Then again, change brings chances, so who knows.

Oh man did I misremember. I used a word that the filter didn't like and I commented that it was "slang". A few posters hammed up the use of the word "slang" in all lower case letters until you showed up and said "It wasn't me."
Since I was talking to moderators, I just assumed you were one of them. Oops.
That was a long time ago.
