Could be a combination of the particular browser plus settings, but it's nothing I've found that I can change, and like I said, I've been to other vBulletin forums without an issue, it's just these two that happened to have both been upgraded recently.

You didn't mention the skin (you did say the forums colors but that wasn't clear). So; I tried both. No change.
Personally; I don't think that grey box is in the forum's colors. If it were, I would expect a bluish or white background

Although I did complain about the change in the forum
colors once, a couple of years ago, I have never changed
them from the defaults, or changed the skin. I'm currently
seeing gray boxes with a gradient from top to bottom. No
yellow boxes. I'm pretty sure that's a very recent change
from what they looked like previously.

Mouse-over notificiation boxes have been yellow in Firefox for many years. And IIRC in Internet Explorer as well. These you will only see if you enter a forum from the mainpage, and hover the mouse over a thread-title.

In case what I said wasn't clear, I meant that the
disappearance of yellow boxes and appearance of
gray boxes is the recent change. I've never seen
both simultaneously. I'm using IE 8. I'm not sure
I've used Firefox to come here since the merger.

The Build Team believes they have solved the PM problem and pushed over a solution earlier today. Everyone who has had problems with missing PMs, please check your Inbox. If you are still having problems, please post them to this thread. Thanks

Here's one data point: The PM repair seems to have worked for my account. Thanks!

Mine are back, and I've said this in the PM-specific thread, but it bears repeating:

Our new technical staff has noted that members shouldn't keep important information in their PMs. If you've got something you want to hang onto, it's easy enough to archive it: tick the box to the right of the messages you want to save, then go to the bottom of the page and in the "Selected Messages" menu select whichever "Download as..." is most appropriate to you. That will save a file of the messages on your local machine.

(Dunno if this has been mentioned; I'm disinclined to wade through 25 pages of "This needs fixing.")

Here's something else you [can] add to the list. When composing in the advanced editor, there is a row of smilies next to the editor box. They take up a lot of horizontal space to no purpose. Can they be eliminated, since the smiley button in the tool bar does the same thing?

Regarding the PMs: I see all my old ones restored, but the few I received SINCE the merger are now gone. Nothing important was in them, so no big deal, but I wanted to mention it.

I still have a PM showing as blank and from 1970, not sure if the real one was from before or after the merger

Reported. Same for me, one single 1970 PM in my outbox.

The CosmoQuest people who have been trying to find out why a few PM's still seem to be missing have yet been unable to find out why this is so. As we understand it, the vast majority of PM problems has now been fixed. Unless there are still big problems for members, the priority of the investigation will be lowered, hopefully to be picked up again when more time is available.

If anyone is still missing any particularly important PM, please reply or report this post, and maybe in individual cases something can be done.

Maybe merger related. Registration took a while - I had to wait so long for the confirmation email, that I forgot my password in the meantime.

This is addressed in the announcement at the top of every page.

There is currently a problem with the BAUT Forum email system such that you may not get the confirmation message you need in order to complete your registration. You are welcome to send me ("ToSeek") a private message to request that we bypass that step, the receipt of which I consider sufficient evidence that you're an actual person.
Only one problem - it seems impossible to send a private message prior to being confirmed as a valid member

I've fixed it - think it was possible before. Might have gotten set back to the defaults after the merger. Anyhow, our apologies.
