Nonsense. Programmers aren't in it just for the money. They're in it for the fame and notoriety. And the women.

Spam folder? In our notification area, or are we talking about personal e-mail notifications of messages? In any case, would someone please send me a PM so I can see if that is functioning for me?

    Thanks

    I can do that.

The reference to "spam folder" was not about the PM problem, but about getting e-mail notifications from CQ. Your e-mail might think the new source (cosmoquest.org versus bautforum.com) is spam.

Thanks, Swift. The message was received, so at least I know that works.

As far as I know, new PMs work fine. The problem is that older, stored PMs have been lost for some people. There is also a question as to whether the e-mailed notifications for things, including "you've received a PM" are working.

My only comment since the merger. Wow - is it slow. An order of magnitude slower than before. A real shame.

Yes, this is a know issue, serverloads are quite high at the moment. It's being worked on, but no promises on timeframe.

I started seeing a new issue today that I didn't see before this.

When I'm at the forum listing, the icon that indicates new posts isn't always updated.
If I do a "mark forum as read" it shows correctly, but when I read the last new post in the forum, it shows as unread posts.

ETA: even making this post marked the forum as unread for me.

Yep, you're not the only one seeing that. Also already posted on the todo list, yesterday or the day before.

    Just to let people know....

Merger issues are still being worked on. Two members of Pamela's team are working on things, but I gather that things are more mucked up than was anticipated. More things are having to be fixed by hand than was assumed could be fixed by mass coding. This has been further complicated by Pamela travels.

As we know more, we'll try to let you know.

Thanks, Swift, for the "up date".

The board seems to "work" fine....which is the most important thing, in my opinion.

Everything else is details...the "cost" of a big move.

...and it gives me an opportunity to come up with interesting "place holders" for the missing smilees. (large grinning, goofy face)

Yes, when we first did the BAUT/CQ merger we found an old box of our college textbooks in the basement that we had put down there after the BABB/UT merger.

Recently, I've begun getting the following messages when trying to access the forum from my employer's network. It doesn't happen all the time, but is pretty frequent.

I don't think so. You can't see them, but there are four in the first line of this post (hand, ROFL, whistle, and evil) and they are just appearing as blanks.

I don't consider half working as "resolved"; not even close.

It is interesting that yesterday when I posted that, they were blanks and now they are red Xs.

When I first read this, yesterday, they were red X's.

    Hmmm...

PM's still missing after several months of no info from the staff.

Posted here in the likely vain hope that this might actually be noticed by someone with the access to do something.

I am well aware that this "someone" doesn't include the old BAUT mods and admins and that they have this problem as well, including the problem of no information.

Is there still a todo list? Can we see it and get updates?

Slang said there was in post 702 (7/23/12) in response to an issue that nags me and seems to have been reported by others.

The last todo list I saw (I helped generate) was only posted in mod land, was last updated towards the end of July

    - PM problems
    - e-mail notifications
    - broken smilies (yes, that's a problem)
    - skin/style problems - White-on-white text in CQ Style, messed-up banner in old blue style
    - couple of redundant threads still need to be removed (such as "Site News and Administration")
    - updating to FAQs to include post-merger information
    - Upload for images problems
    - Getting the "forum read" indicator working

Since that time the smilies have been fixed (at least made operational) and the redundant threads removed and some basic forum restructuring done - Thanks ToSeek - and I've updated the FAQs. As far as I know, the problems with PMs, e-mail notifications, skin/style, image uploading, and the forum read indicators are still problems.

So basically it's the problems requiring tech staff rather than admin access that are the ones that aren't fixed yet.
Wasn't paid tech staff one of the arguments for the merger?

Got another one mayble to add to the list, if anyone else can duplicate it. I thought maybe it was my system, but I've confirmed that this happens on only one other forum, and they happen to be running the latest vBulletin, and have recently upgraded/moved and are working out bugs. vBulletin's own support forum behaves correctly, so I'm guessing it's a setting here.

The mouseover/tooltips that shows the first post in a topic's link...I get two, one like before, themed with the forum's colors, and then one in a yellow plain box. Running the latest version of Firefox on Ubuntu.

Not to leave this hanging: such a question was adressed and answered later in the first page of this thread.

No problem here, Firefox 14.0.1, Win XP. Update downloading, will report if the new one behaves like yours.

    ETA: 15.0.1, no problem either.
