Looking at my PMs I have three apparently blank ones that claim to be from 1970, I think I have all of mine otherwise though

Could we just knock off the grammar discussion.

It is a little bit of a pain to pick through all the posts and figure out which ones to move to a new thread. But if someone really cares to continue the discussion, please Report this post and we'll go through the effort.

    Thanks,

Phil Plait has just blogged about Citizen Science projects -- without even mentioning CosmoQuest! He really seems to have forgotten us altogether. I posted a reply asking about this, it'll be interesting to see if he responds.

Hmm? "They examine lunar craters. They look for lonely iceballs orbiting the Sun out past Neptune." ... That's "us", with linky 'n all. Did he add that later?

I missed that! I doubt he added it later, sorry Phil!

Since the merger, I no longer get email notification of the first unread post in threads I've participated in and I can't find where to reactivate it. Is that feature not included in the new board?

While trying to debug my account on the new forums (I am still not getting emails from them and I have no idea why - spam setting are not blocking the domain as far as I can tell, have even tried turning them off) I have created a new account for testing. It is not meant as a sock puppet and now I have got my main account working I would be grateful if someone could kill it off for me. The account is Alniyat (which remains un-activated).

Both email issues forwarded. Shaula, we're looking at removing that account, I'm not sure we can (or want to). A zero-post profile isn't likely to get you in trouble though.

My sent PM folder contains 30 empty PMs dated 1970, and none of my actual sent PMs. I can't seem to clear the folder.

(I think someone has already posted something about this, but I can't find the post or response. I expect it will be fixed in due course.)

FWIW, the first time I logged on post-merger, and looked at my PMs, I found the same (except not 30, but approx the number of PMs I'd had, pre-merger).

When I logged on today, and checked again, I found all my (old) PMs there. So maybe those "empty PMs dated 1970" are, in fact, your real PMs? Maybe you should leave them alone, and sometime later, when you log in, they'll magically re-appear as the old PMs you knew?

ToSeek reported a similar problem, IIRC, but hasn't said anything since?

ETA: A bit more complicated; "Sent Items", in my PMs, all still seem empty, and are dated 1970. I sent a test PM, and found that it's in Sent Items, is not empty, and has the correct date.

Maybe you and I could exchange PMs, as a test? (or should I say, "Maybe you and me could ..." ;-) )

Hasn't been fixed for him, yet, AFAIK. The weird thing is, I've lost every PM I ever got from you (got most, or all, others still. Don't remember if I ever got a PM from ToSeek)... and another member reported that same issue, specifically with your PM's, or at least those posted under the name 'Nereid'. This has been reported to the migration people already.

Another member with a similar problem could exchange PM's with me.

ETA: and my outbox is all empty 1970 messages too.

Deleting or trying to delete a file when you don't know
what it contains is generally a very bad idea. Doing so
in the middle of files being moved around is a horribly
    bad idea.

I currently have 144 Sent Items, all blank and dated
January 1, 1970. The most recent 50 items in my inbox
look okay, except that there isn't anything from Nereid,
    and there probably should be.

My sent items box appears okay, and it includes some really old messages.

My inbox has 16 empty messages dated 1970. I am missing messages from a few months ago as well as four years ago. The total number of messages (intact and empty) in there seems to be about what I remember from before the merger. Perhaps, as suggested earlier in the thread, the empties correspond to real ones that have gone missing.

ETA: Hey grapes! Here's a check you could do. hhEb09'1 sent me at least one PM on 8th or 9th of July 2008, that should be in there, but isn't. I have sent items that bracket that particular PM. Is it in hhEb09'1's sent items (assuming it wasn't deleted)?

Wow, I didn't think to check my SENT messages. Right now, it shows 257 SENT messages, but only the two sent today are accessible. 250 blank messages with no titles, dated 1970.

    Maybe it's a moderator thing.

That's close to the time that I was made moderator. I'll check it out.
ETA: No, the hhEb09'1 SENT mailbox was missing all 163 SENT messages. Not a single one was available. Perhaps, they'll show up yet. Maybe, it's progressing by username/number.

Same here. I checked my Inbox some time back, and it looked okay, but I hadn't previously checked my "Sent Items" folder. There are 48 listed messages, no titles, all dated 01-January-1970 12:00 AM. I'm not going to be that concerned if they can't be recovered, but it is a definite error.

I have none of those blanks in my sent box, but I have a bunch in my inbox. The earliest in my sentbox from me were to you (as hhEb09'1) on March 11, 2006. The responses from you are missing. I was just wondering if there was something special about that timeframe. As in, is it an issue with dates and accounts or is it an issue of random file corruption?

I think it's a database update glitch due to mismatched settings of auto escaping. It normally is when those errors happen.

Ha! I had to think twice and checked again to make sure they weren't there...nope. That would be something I would forget about...I may try with another email address...maybe just not getting to my program.

Can we have an update on how the post-merger bug fixing (etc) is going?

For example, it would seem that the PM (older PMs in Sent Items, Inbox) problems are not yet fixed; is it being actively worked on?

The problem is being analysed, to see if we can find one or more root causes. Pamela has already offered apologies for being on the road, conferences 'n all, delaying required action (when it's actually become clear what that action needs to be). We're all trying as hard as we can to fix these issues, but at some critical steps in the process the knowledge of the person doing the actual migration is crucial. So, yes, it's being worked on actively, but not as fast as we all would like it to, were this a perfect world.

I've yet to see the logos at the tops of any page.
The message board in my profile only shows Buttercup's posting activity.
Twice now I've logged in, viewed a page, and upon trying to leave it, get the "are you sure you want to leave this page?" and when saying "yes" it refreshes that same page, keeping me in a loop. I had to exit my browser to get away.

It's just as I feared.. the merger with CosmoQuest has created a singularity which has linked us with the origin of the Internet and messages from ARPANET are being rerouted into the future. So far the damage to the timeline is minimal because most of the messages are:

    "Is this working?
    "testing 1 2 3..."
    "Is there anybody out there?"

What really concerns me is when information starts getting pulled back from the future to the past...giving struggling programmers all the foreknowledge they need to get obscenely rich.. and abandon their efforts to create computer networks.. thus ending The Internet As We Know It.

    God help us all...

There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
