Lightbulb What is this and who wore it.....

I thought you Fellow Bauters might like to see what I recently bought for my wife, she is "Queen" of her Kitty Cats and this was just too cool to pass up for her!!

Clue: Before 1918 and the initials on the shield are "FAR".....

    Nice find.

The lion looks British but the helmet doesn't. The clue doesn't help me either.

I didn't find that one! Mercy, there's a big difference between my reproduction and the real thing!

That will teach me to think Prussian rather than German; I had forgotten the Saxon lion.

Only a few of these helmets were made, they are rare, and worth a lot of money.

Guys: "Saechische Garde Reiter Helm zur Parade" (Saxon Garde Reiter Hemet for Parade)....."FAR" is Friedrich Augustus Rex--Friedrich August III the last King of that German State, 1902 to 1918...The lion was worn on the helmet for parades, otherwise they had the usual spike...I think it is a tourist trade 1920's reproduction, but, the Lion is real issue....too hard to fake the Lion...The Prussians had one with an Eagle, so, the Saxons and Bavarians had parade hemets with lions...Wuerttemberg, the other remaining Kingdom in the era 1870-1918 did not indulge in this decoration...The Grand Duchies, Electorates and other Principalities did not either....Only one Regiment of Garde Reiter in the Saxon Army, two Regiments of "Eagle Wearers" in the Prussian Army...("Regiment Garde du Corps" and the "Garde Kuerassieren Regiment") Hard to find this Helmet any more, and there are lot of bad reproductions....The Bavarian King had the "Lieb Hartschiere" who wore a Bavarian Lion, these helmets are even harder to find than the Saxon Lion Tops!!

Not from MDL on E Bay, but this is one of those he discovered in Germany years ago, and has been selling...(Paid a lot less than E-Bay!)

(Note: If any of my German is not spelled correctly, feel free to correct my errors!)
