The Bulgarian Chapter of the Mars Society was officially established today in Sofia, the capital of the Balkan nation. Initially begun as a Facebook group, the new organization held its inaugural meeting at the Rectorate of the University of Sofia.
Among the founders of the new chapter are Mikhail Mateev, an engineer, Georgi Draganov, a university student, Nikolay Tzoney, a Ph.D. student and Svetoslav Alexandrov, a popular science writer.
The primary mission of Mars Society Bulgaria is to encourage the robotic and human exploration of the planet Mars, engage in education and public outreach, and participate in projects related to space exploration, including constructing Mars rovers and launching high-altitude scientific balloons.

The Mars Society (U.S.) would like to extend its congratulations to the founders of the new Mars Society Bulgaria chapter and commend them on their hard work in establishing the group. We wish them much success in their endeavors.
