Since this is an astronomy site, it's probably worth mentioning that a Japanese astronomer (Koichiro Morita from the National Astronomical Observatory) was apparently murdered in Chile (he was working with the ALMA telescope there). I'm not sure but I think the police there think it was a robbery. Here's a story.
