    Guides for Equatorial Binocular Viewing

    Good day,

I live about 10Deg. north of the equator (10°40'N, 61°31'W) and I wanted to buy some basic astronomy gear for a friend. I decided to get her a Nikon Action 7x50 EX Extreme ATB Binocular (still open to suggestions) and a planisphere (Equatorial Guide to the Stars), but I wanted to get a binocular guide book as well, but I don't see any that is specific/inclusive (or doesn't say in the description) of persons living close to the equator.

Can anyone recommend any basic binocular guides that are appropriate for use here? She isn't really that into astronomy (but likes looking at the stars at night), so any book would have to be geared towards casual use with not too many heavy technical jargon. Thanks!

    Check this link for info

Can you even get a planisphere for 10 degrees? It would have severe distortions I'd think. I've never seen any that go below 30 degrees for this reason. The above link includes star charts for binoculars that might be better for that latitude.

    Rick
