The Ladies of "The Big Bang Theory"; your favorite?

Since I couldn't include all of the major female characters in the 1st poll, will create a separate poll for them.

My vote goes for Penny, on the basis (being a hetero woman) that she's the most down-to-Earth, would be easiest to chat with.
I'll tell you in the next life, when we are both cats.

Bernadette's the cutest, but if I had to pick one to spend time with, it would be Penny.

But you didn't include all the women. Priya?

    (I'd still say Penny.)

Same. Ignoring my previously noted affinity for Kaley Cuoco the actress, Penny's character would be the one I'd have the most in common with and enjoy hanging out with the most. Bernadette would probably be fun to hang out with too. Amy is a Sheldon analog and I don't see that going well. My g/f and I have lived together for six years and aren't married, so I wouldn't see being around Sheldon's very Christian mom going so well either. And Howard's mom? Who wants to hang out with that?

Amy isn't a Sheldon analog. She wants to be like Penny, Sheldon just wants to be Sheldon.

Actually, Sheldon puts a lot of effort into learning and applying "normal people behavior" (leading to, among other things, a running gag about recognizing sarcasm). I see Amy's attempts to "be like Penny" to be an essentially Sheldonesque spin on "girl talk".

The gag isn't that Amy is different from Sheldon in this way. The gag is that Amy takes a characteristically Sheldon approach to girl talk.

I don't think so. In the first episode of the current series Penny goes to stay with Amy to 'lie low' after her drunken night with Raj.
Raj turns up ay the apartments.
When Amy answers the door she says
'A guest in my trundle bed and a boy at my door. I wish I can tell my thirteen year old self it does get better.'

Amy is like Sheldon in that she's smart, likes being smart, and likes doing smart things. She is also socially awkward, as is Sheldon.

She is not like Sheldon in that she doesn't want to be socially awkward. She honestly wants to be one of the girls.

Sheldon realizes he needs to be more social, but doesn't like that. He also doesn't want to be one of the guys, he wants to be the center of the circle.

Both of them are averse to physical intimacy, but Amy, deep down inside, wants to "go there." (Note her remark quoted by captain swoop. Sheldon would never say something like that.)

Didn't mean to spark debate! I was looking at them as equals from the standpoint of being the person hanging out with them. Not so much that they're the same, but that I'd have a hard time finding a topic I could discuss with either. They'd both have the risk of turning the situation extremely awkward via their social awkwardness, etc.

I guess they're not total equals in that regard -- If I wanted to go hang out at a sports bar, grab a few drinks, and watch a football game, Amy would likely be willing to do so whereas Sheldon most certainly would not. But from the interpersonal interaction standpoint, I'd think it'd be too very similar experiences.

. . . but now I've become one of those people talking about tv/movie characters as if they are real. I feel dirty, and must go shower myself.

    In the 'Isolation Permutation

Amy: Whee! Ooh, finally someone found second base.
Amy to Sheldon: I'm just saying, second base is right there.

Amy: Kiss me where I've never been kissed before
Sheldon : In Salt lake City?

Amy: Sheldon! What would it take for you to go into that liquor store, buy a bottle of hooch, take me to that hotel across the street and have your way with me?

I've never seen Leonard's mother, but I've not watched the series from the start; am seeing re-runs on TBS. I'd have put her in the poll, if I'd known (and polls at BAUT allowed for more than 5 options).
