Are the folds along the terminator near Telemachus real or a shadow effect? They are not on the map, maybe the sun was high when the Voyagers passed by. I've to pull out my old PDS CD-ROMs...

PS: they are real. Just much better visible now with the low sun.

Polychemus is the double crater 7:30 o'clock from the largest crater, and Phemius to the left from Polychemus, so the large crater must be Penelope. If the map is right, Telemachus is only large crater over Ithaca Chasma ("chain" of three craters, Ajax (poorly visible near the lower right limb), Polychemus, and Phemius points approximately towards it). So you're right.

    Rhea

This view of Saturn's second-largest moon, Rhea (1,528 kilometers, or 949 miles, across), shows some of the large craters that cover its surface. There is a bright feature near the moon's right limb, possibly a large, rayed crater or bright icy material exposed by internal processes.

As a (drunken) taxpayer I'd just like to say that whatever small percentage of my tax dollars went to this project was money well spent. One small request though...COLOR . Maybe you've heard of it. It's what keeps these very nice images of other worlds from being great images of other worlds. I'm just saying....

Yes, I'm aware that the last one is color.

These pictures of Titan aren't taken in visible light, so any colors wouldn't be realistic. On the other hand, they have released pictures that combine different bands to produce a (garish-looking) false-color image, and others that do the same thing through the VIMS instrument, which takes a whole spectrum for every pixel.

Any indication that the Mimas imagry came off?

I don't believe any close-up images of Mimas were taken at the end of Cassini's first orbit around Saturn.

Right. All raw images are posted on the Cassini site. No Mimas close-ups yet.

    Seeing in the Dark

    Waning Iapetus

Many impact craters can be seen in the bright terrain and in the transition zone between bright and dark, and for the first time in parts of the dark terrain. Also visible is a line of mountains that appear as a string of bright dots in the two color images at left, and on the eastern limb in the image at right. These mountains were originally detected in Voyager images, and might compete in height with the tallest mountains on Earth, Jupiter's moon Io and possibly even Mars. Further observations will be required to precisely determine their heights. Interestingly, the line of peaks is aligned remarkably close to the equator of Iapetus.

    Hmmmm....

I'm no expert, but the dark bit on Iapetus looks like it could be a honkin' big mare. I can't really tell how rough the surface is there, but to me it looks a lot like the Moon. Am I missing something?

I knew I'd see it eventually: ToSeek was ToSeeked by ToSeek.

The odd thing is that it's the same source for both images.
