    Nasty annoying pop-up

    First I must say I love Universe Today and almost everything about it. However the latest "innovation" - the little "Recommended for you" pop-up is just plain annoying. Please lose it.

    Exactly my thought. When I saw the thread title, I knew exactly what you were referring to. It's very annoying, and there didn't seem to be any way to close or minimize it.

    I'll be avoiding UT if this isn't fixed.

    It is pretty annoying. Is there a way to disable it?

    I would use Adblock Plus with Firefox. I switched (momentarily) to IE 8.0 and remembered how little signal is under all of that noise. And I love the Universe Today, but 7 ads and one pop up above the fold and the first article... Really?

    Adblock Plus on Firefox does not stop it.

    Selecting '?' and opting out does not stop it.

    Very, very irritating. I have been spending more time on space.com lately.

    I am using fanboy's filter. I suggest adding a filter for ||cloudfront.net.

    That should take care of it.

    AdBlock Plus doesn't stop it. Opting out doesn't work - that is REALLY annoying!

    This type of thing does nothing for the functionality of the site. It just slows it down and annoys your customers. (as do all those links to Facebook, Twitter etc) Let's go back a few steps and concentrate on delivering quality information with low overheads. Otherwise visiting the site becomes tedious, and people will drift away.

    I think I mistyped that filter. It should read:

    ||cloudfront.net^

    Sorry.

    Noscript blocks it. I'm avoiding the site when I'm not using Firefox with Noscript.

    By the way: An opt-out option should be a true opt-out option.
