They still make mistakes and the farther back in history you go, the more error-prone they were. ETA: By the way, a radar indication is a display of what antenna structures and electronics are receiving and presenting. There may be errors introduced in the process but "mistakes" are faulty interpretations of that display by people, and that is a big problem when UFO analysis comes into play.
