    Mobile access via forum apps

Is there any chance you might enable a forum app like tapatalk at BAUT?
Makes smartphone access so much easier...

Not that I know of. I think vBulletin have a mobile suite that would let BAUT have one but it costs money for BAUT.

From a quick look at the Tapatalk website they have an apparently free plugin compatible with the version of vBulletin that BAUT runs so in theory at least there shouldn't be much more to enabling it than installing the plugin, though given the nature of things there would likely be more to it than that and IIRC Fraser is reluctant to go far from the standard configuration of vBulletin. It does look like a good idea though

A forum on which I am a moderator enabled Tapatalk on Saturday and we are very down-level in version. It was apparently painless and the members like it, including me.
Tapatalk also provides moderator functions such as opening and closing threads, editing and deleting posts, etc.
The iPad app is $2.99 with an upgrade version for $4.99.

    From their FAQ:
Q: What's the point of this app if my members can access my site with mobile skin at no cost?

A: Most users are content with the mobile skin or a standard web browser but some of them would appreciate a full-on native app forum experience on their phone. For example Tapatalk app allows user to upload photo directly from their phone to your forum as an image attachment. All these will drive more engagement to your forum at no cost to you.
    So, are there other advantages?

Besides, I've found the mobile skins underpowered--in the light of 4G, and even 3G, availability.

Grapes, the main argument in favor of Tapatalk is that it is much easier to use than Safari for reading boards created in Vbulletin. When using Safari many links - such as the page numbers at the bottom of a thread - shrink to almost invisibility on the screen. And that's on an iPad. I can't imagine what they look like on a smartphone.

I suppose "elegant navigation on mobile devices" is the best benefit of using Tapatalk. The photo upload is also a nice feature but BAUT photo policy somewhat negates the advantage.

How? IIRC you can, and are allowed to, attach large images, just don't show them inline full-size by default.

WARNING... be a little cautious regarding the application of 'apps' on your I-pad or smart phone..

PC or Lap Top.. am I over cautious..Yes.

The permissions implied often are invasive. Be careful what you are giving permission to.

Slang that is true. But it means downloading the photo to my system and then uploading to BAUT vs. imbedding inline with a link to Photobucket or Flickr or the originating website. To me those are easier options.

ETA: And yes I agree, the policy does not negate the Tapatalk feature. I had it in my head that photos in general were discouraged.

Looking into a little further (their FAQ again), it does siphon off some page views, so that may be an (hidden cost) issue.

I've been using an iPhone 4S for six months, no mobile skin, with no problem. Well, maybe a little--I'll look around for a forum to take a test drive. Wait, its gonna cost me $2.99, or even the upgrade, $4.99. I can't imagine being satisfied with the standard version.

Well, let's put it this way. Viewing BAUT on my iPhone would probably be impractical with an optical microscope, and would require an electron microscope.
    As above, so below

Weird. I've used almost nothing but an iPhone for six months.

    Have you tried tapatalk?

My android does ok with the board; before that I was using a Centro. The zoom and screen orientation is twitchy, but it works.

Well it may just be my old eyes.

As I understand it, Tapatalk must be enabled in the vbulletin software. BAUTForum is not a listed forum in the Tapatalk app, so the answer is we can't try it.

And isn't that what we've been talking about in this thread????

But i knew you'd already tried tapatalk! I was just inquiring of the other users whether they had.

How does it do on the mod panel?

    Ah got it....

The mod panel seems to offer a fair complement of functions although I have not tried them all:

Functions for Threads: Delete, Unapprove (have never used that), Lock, Stick, Move, Ban User.
Functions for Posts: Edit, Delete, Unapprove, Ban User

ETA: These functions are not part of the moderator panel in basic Tapatalk:
    Threads:
    Copy Thread
    Edit Thread
    Merge Threads
    Remove Redirects

    Posts:
    Merge Posts
    Move Posts
    Approve Attachement
    Unapprove Attachment

Weirdly, I no longer seem able to post using Safari, for some reason.

    This is Opera.

OTOH, it seems tapatalk does not support the admin/mod panel, and only simple mod functions, the HD version no mod functions at all. They should be fixing that, or, if you have info to the contrary, bring it to this thread.
