I'm just trying to find some acceptable ones for the ones that are completely broken - maybe not great, but better than a red X.

    Clap -

    Think -

    Crying -

    Naughty -

    Silence / ssshhh -

    Hand -

I rather write 'LOL' than use that smiley. It creeps me out. Just sayin' ...

    I like most of them...

I like the second one better. It not only matches closer with the rest, but it's the same one we had before.

Not crazy about that one at all. I'm not sure why, but it just doesn't seem to fit with the rest.
    How about ?

Fixed all of the ones provided. Still need:

    Shifty
    Silenced
    Exclaim
    Question
    Sad

Meanwhile, at Swift's request, we now have:

    :-rimshot-:

    :-einstein-:

    :-scope-:

(Take out hyphens to get smilie.)
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

    Shifty:
It's hard to think of sad without the tears, but here's a possibility:

How does question differ from confused? Confused already has a question mark, so I don't know if there would be much of a distinction.
Would it be more of a "Huh"? An "I don't know"? Or perhaps a "need help"?

Would Silence be more of a "I'm keeping silent" rather than "shh, you should be silent"?

    Thanks ToSeek.

NEOWatcher's are fine. I too wasn't sure what was meant by Silenced and Question.

I think this is our old shifty:

I suppose question could just be a question mark:

    And exclaim an exclamation point:

What's wrong with the question mark and exclamation point on the keyboard?

    Good point.

(Or else they should give us animated periods and commas as well -- maybe people will use them!)

Somewhere along the line we seem to have lost LOL. We have ROFL , but not the non-rolling on the floor variety (we used to)

I'm just trying to figure out something to fill in for the "Exclaim" and "Question" smiles. I don't even remember them nor do I know what they are for or really mean. If ToSeek can just delete them, I'm fine with that too. I'm just tired of the red Xs and I'm tired of the lack of follow-up to all the loose ends and broken bits left by the merger, the vast majority of which I can do nothing about, but as a moderator here feel some responsibility for (end of small rant).

I'll add any that you can come up with a smilie for if I think it makes sense and/or if there's a groundswell of support.

On the previous page of this thread I mentioned the one
smiley that I think is the most needed. However, way,
way, way more important than that is that the smileys
be consistent with the old ones. New smileys can be
added, but replacements always need to "say" the same
thing as the smileys they replace.

That's one I could use: a "groundswell" to append to my own suggestions to suggest their widespread support. A smug little gremlin being lifted by a rising column.

Seismograph indicates 10 x e-09 Richter: no evidence for a groundswell.
