    The New Smilies

    --etc

    I can't honestly say I care for them; I liked the old ones the way they were, clear and understandable, not overdone.

    Anyone else want to go back to the old designs?

    The set that was introduced near the beginning of the year was
    awful compared to those previously. They had faint details and
    didn't always match the attitude being expressed by the previous
    ones, so smilies in earlier posts could have their their meanings
    altered. I thought that was terrible, and complained. Recently
    there seemed to be some small changes, but I couldn't tell what
    was changed. These new smilies appear at least to have clear
    details, unlike those from near the beginning of the year, but they
    do not express the intended emotions well, and they don't look
    very artistic.

    I would stongly urge getting ahold of the smilies used a year ago
    and reinstating them, or most of them. They are available to
    vBulletin owners for download. Nobody else can download them
    or I would have done so long ago and sent them to Fraser or
    ToSeek.

    I'll look into it when I get the chance. Those are definitely truly hideous emoticons.

    I agree with Jeff that the very old ones were the best of the batch thus far. I dislike these, and dislike the ones just prior even more.

    I think the things tend to be overused regardless, but yes, those are ugly.

    The only smilie I use with regularity is ...but these new ones, as others have posted, are ugly.

    This newest configuration seem childish... and less than expected.. : or was that :.: ....

    I looked into this, but I don't seem to be able to change the smiiies en masse without access to the server, which I don't have. I'd have to change them one-by-one, which is rather a hassle. If someone wants to point out two or three truly odious ones as well as better alternatives, I can do that, but I'm not going to do all of them.

    If I had to name only a few, it would be to revert the <none left in list> back, they're the new ones, apparently from a set made by a designer who though vBulletin is an application for kindergarteners.
    If I can only name fewer, just start from the beginning, I prioritized them.

    ETA; removed the ones that are done

    If we're only going to get a few reverted, i would suggest to change Henrik's order to start with and , if for no other reason than that those are by far the most used ones.

    I find the "smile" okay, but vote to replace the "wink".

    Here are the smilies I use most, and what I think about them.
    "Smile": Acceptable
    "Wink": Really Bad
    "Confused":Really, Really Bad
    "Roll Eyes": Really Bad
    : "Embarassed": Bad
    "eek": Bad
    "Think":Good
    "Whistle":Good

    Wall is also good, but I've exceeded the limit for this post.

    The think and whistle ones haven't changed.

    I think that point highlights my opinion that Extravoice might have a tendency to resist change.
    While I think that most of the new ones have lost a lot of clarity, I do take two exceptions to Extra's comments.
    Embarrased and eek. I think they do get the point across rather clearly, even if the coloration does make it a little less clear.
    I see a lot of them are still the old ones, and I can't really remember the old ones that the new ones replaced.

    Looks like Wilford Brimley with a sunburn rather than some emotion.

    Sigh, I know that think and whistle haven't changed. In fact, I don't think they changed in the past several iterations. I was simply pointing out the icons I frequently use and my opinion of them.

    As for my tendency resistance to change, I'll leave that determination to the professionals.

    BTW: That Wilfred Brimley icon is a little scary. However, I don't recall what the previous icon for "angry" looked like.

    That's angry?!?

    Okay, that one must be changed. It does look like Wifred Brimley with a sunburn.

Size: 1.3 KB. Sometimes just isn't enough to express how funny I think something is.

    Maybe it could replace which isn't really rolling eyes.

    I concur with Henrik on the list of really ugly ones. Here are suggested replacements for :) and :(, done in the style of the ones that were not changed. I'll try to do something similar for the other ones, too, if these seem acceptable. Might tweak the happy one; the smile isn't quite right.

    I agree. Although; I can see that it is a smile, I kind of get the impression of Charlie Brown with an embarassed smile.

    The wink should be the next to go. It looks like the poor thing had a stroke.
