Double your pleasure, double your knowledge of the moon. GRAIL is set to launch.

I am surprised I haven't seen a thread on this mission earlier.

I'm a bit surprised I haven't seen a lot of talk about the GRACE mission. Maybe I just missed it.

It was a joke. If I said it was the only satellite carried aloft by swallows (African swallows to be precise) maybe it would make my intent more clear?

Now that it's today, we can still say not today.

to allow additional time to review propulsion system data from Thursday’s detanking operation
They don't say why they need the additional time though. I would think that if it's a normal review, they would have known that before scheduling today's launch.

The launch now is planned for Saturday, Sept. 10 from Space Launch Complex-17B at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. There are two instantaneous launch opportunities at 8:29:45 a.m. and 9:08:52 a.m. EDT. The forecast for Sept. 10 shows a 60 percent chance of favorable weather conditions for a Saturday morning launch.

5 mins into the flight. Good launch, good fairing seperation.

IMHO NASA has a great commentator on this launch, I think his name is Steve Agid.

Me too! I hit NASA TV, wondering if they'd launch today, and immediately saw some blue inset picture with "400". Wondered what it meant... so used to the hold times in the Shuttle launches that I didn't think of 4 minutes 0 seconds until I noticed that the rocket was venting.

I couldn't find the live stream until 2:12 in the countdown. With the shuttle and JUNO, I don't recall see that much smoke climb up vertically. I thought a "bad thing" happened for a second or two.

Juno was on an Atlas V, I guess the Delta II is just more 'dramatic'.

After GRAIL's ride aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket comes to an end, the spacecraft will be on a path that will reach the moon in three-and-a-half months.
