    Could Metamaterials Improve Telescope Lenses?

Could metamaterials be used to significantly improve telescopes and astronomy?

I'm thinking of home/amateur telescopes in particular, even though metamaterial lenses might be too expensive at first.

I've heard of research being done on metamaterials and microscopes, but is there any research being done on metamaterials and telescopes?

Do you mean doping of glass by bombardment to change the refractive index instead of changing the shape? Flat lenses are then possible. The problems of colour separation would I guess remain the same.
