Forget any Bad Astronomy in the next Star Wars movie, it's going to destroy our economy!

Of course, none of us would even consider shirking work to see the movie. Right?

Nah, I don't have any classes opening day, so it shouldn't be a problem...though I do know two or three people who would be candidates for infection by the Darth Vader Virus.

Heh. If I review it, it is work related.

Does this mean you can take a tax deduction for the admission?

Except of course that $319 million dollars is couch change in the US economy over that period of time.

I'm going to go see Spider Man.

BTW, you guys have seen David Brin's take on Star Wars, right? He's not a fan.

Yes, it does.
I hate you.

Ursula LeGuin didn't like it, either, though I can't find a reference at the moment.

I read Brin's comments, and didn't agree with them. Mike Wong at Stardestroyer.net has a rather scathing review of Brin's article.

I had to dig for the specific article, which is here.

I’ve read both letters and I thought the Apollo hoax debate got acrimonious! For what its worth – Mike Wong got it right in my humble opinion.

P.S. - I won't miss work to see Attack of the Clones - but I will see it on Sat or Sun - Can't wait!

OT question. The last line in the Guardian article is this:

But it's important to retain a sense of proportion. The effect on the British economy of four weeks of World Cup football has been put at £3bn.
What I can't figure out for sure is, is this a bad effect or a good effect? (Especially since the next World Cup is getting ready to start in my own backyard. )

I'm certainly going to see it. I'm sure it's visually stunning. I hope the plot will have more substance than previous Star Wars sagas. I have to admit that I really really disliked "The Phantom Menace". Even the exciting pod race. Don't know why - I could go along with Luke Skywalker's one beat up anti-grav sport coupe in the first film, but just could not suspend disbelief for all those anti-grav jet engines on tethers alla Roman chariots, in "The Phantom Menace". Couldn't buy the underwater city either. But I'll see the next one, (after "Spider Man"). Also, I'll be at the snack bar if either Jar jar Binks or the Ewoks show up. (Yikes!) ("Amelie" is my favorite so far this year, though it's not a Sci-Fi film.)
