    When you awake...

...are you "rip roaring ready" to face the world? Or, slow to stir, grumpy, in desperate need of a cup of coffee?

I'm the former...as soon as my feet hit the floor I'm pretty much ready for whatever the day has to offer.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for my Wife and 2 children...they fall into the latter catagory.

(In this question, I'm assuming that one has had a good night's sleep.)

Boy, I seem to be poll happy this morning.

These days, it generally takes me a while to get going: I need to get up and shower before I'm ready to face anything. But it varies, and in the oddest ways. On Sunday, I slept in until 8 am and was still dragging. But then on Tuesday I set my alarm for 5 am (over two hours before I normally get up) so I could view the transit and was up and at 'em right away.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

After hitting the snooze button on the alarm clock 3-5 times and cursing the demented person who thought of 9am start times for the average job I'm ready to go -- get a cup of coffee.

I completely understand. My Wife is sometimes "less that happy" with how cheerful I can be in the morning.

I get up about 8, school starts at 9, which is several coffees and a can of coke on the way there later.

Still, things are kind of unpleasant untill about 10, when recess starts, and I consume more coke. So during my first period, I'm like an extra from Dawn of the Dead.

Don't drink coffee but I'm latter one. When I wake up for school (which is finnaly over) it's most of the time right before I need to get there.

I said I'm somewhere in between, because when I wake up I can be completely awake and ready to go if I need to, otherwise I like to take some time just to get into things. I find I feel much better if I give myself a good half hour before I really have to get ready for anything. I could wake up a half hour later, but it doesn't do as much for me.

<-------------------- Ex-Army; so I'm the first kind. I got into the habit years back of rocketing out of bed and getting going while the brain is still going 'Whaaaaa????'
Scared hell out of my GF; first night together. Alarm went off at 6; (forgot to shut it off) habit shot me out of bed like greased lightning; scaring hell out of her - she thought the house was on fire.

Me too. I much prefer easing into the day, but can get right to it if I have to with no loss of alertness. I voted somewhere in between.

First thing I do in the morning is switch on the PC (on days when college is out). But I just cant get going before a shower. So AFTER that I log on. Like Normandy, I really like to take my time getting ready in the morning, otherwise I always get the feeling that I've missed something, and it usually turns out to be true. I'm not a big fan of morning warm drinks, but during my exams I had a double espresso every morning.

If you don't like warm drinks, you might want to try an ice-blended mocha with a shot or two of espresso. Caffeine that's cold. Yummy! 8)

I wake up OK, but getting out of bed is another matter :P The key is to get my feet on the floor; the rest of me usually follows.

Unless I'm on standby at the fire station. The lights, bells, buzzers, whooping, and warbling do the trick in a hurry. Some people don't even wake up for that - a fact which suprised me at first.

I get up at 6:15, jump out of bed, and prepare for school. It used to be different, but only for a couple of weeks.

This summer, I'll have to practice sleeping late on weekdays...

What do you do to the people that sleep through that?

I'd like to say something wicked and clever, but usually - just shake them. It helps to find them before the lights in the bunkroom go back out again. Other options are bellowing into the station PA, which has the side benefit of annoying their neighbors, or just leaving without 'em if you have enough people...

Maybe I shouldn't laugh, but something about all of this really tickles my funny bone.

I'm definately somewhere in between. Some mornings ready to go, others well... Either way my first thought is to get caffeine into the system.

Depends. If my cat is staring at me or giving me kisses, then I am up in a jiffy. If she decides to ignore me, then I wait for the alarm clock to buzz.

I guess I am somewhere in between. I feel really tired right when I wake up, but I am very alert. Once, my roommate came in my room and woke me up for some reason or another, and I scared her because I woke up so fast. Sometimes though, if I wake up at an odd time, I am very awake, but disoriented...I could stare at the clock for 5 minutes, and still not be able to read what time it is. So yeah..I guess somewhere inbetween.

I voted for 'in between'. I like to get up 'gently', hit the snooze button a few times before actually getting out of bed, take it easy at home for a little while before I go out, and if I have enough time, relax and have some coffee after a while. I try not to drink coffee right away, since I'm afraid of growing too dependent on it just to wake up :P , but I do feel better once I've gotten some into my system. If I really have to, I can manage without, as long as it's not too early (in which case, all of what I just said goes out the window - I need my coffee, pronto! ).

Worse is trying to fall asleep with a cat staring at you. Totally unnerving.
