The Sun unleashed an M-2 (medium-sized) solar flare, an S1-class (minor) radiation storm and a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME) on June 7, 2011 from sunspot complex 1226-1227. The large cloud of particles mushroomed up and fell back down looking as if it covered an area of almost half the solar surface.
It is somewhat unique because at many places in the eruption there seems to be even cooler material - at temperatures less than 80,000 K.
sky watchers should be alert for auroras when the CME arrives.
As i was browsing through the internet for more information and pictures i accidentally clicked on 2012;Coronal mass ejection. why do people link everything to 2012 now.
End of the world? NO, when will people understand?NASA has confirmed that there are two large holes or areas in the Earth's magnetosphere , confirmed by their THEMIS satellites. When this solar event happens again as predicted by NASA , there will be alot less protection from our magnetosphere . The end result will be a life changing event for the whole world![]()
