So recently I moved to the south side of morgantown to a place with a yard. The view is somewhat obstructed by trees, but you can still see a fair amount of the sky. The last few days have been ridiculously humid, fogging up the 8" dob as soon as I got outside. Tonight however was perfect.
I found three of the Messiers (M3, M81 and M82) as well as saturn. Saturn looked gorgeous at 30x and pretty good at 240x. The messiers were very faint. M3 was a uniform grey blob and only the central areas of the galaxies were discernable. I'd hoped that getting away from the northeastern cities (I started observational astronomy in East Rutherford NJ) would make the skies a lot darker - but apparently not. Although this was the first time I'd found M81 and M82 through the telescope. So yaay! And I'll be very interested to see what these look like through the 10" dob when it gets refurbished.
