Just when I had begun to forget about UFOs again -- having had most of the strange things I had seen in reputable video clips debunked -- I watched a show on CBS called "Unexplained Mysterious". They detailed a few interesting instances I had never heard about before... and I was just wondering if there is a more reasonable explanations for the given occurances than what the show produced.
The first incident was about an explosion in Siberia, I believe the explosion took place in an area phonetically pronouced as 'Tean'Gooska'. Anyway, they mentioned how the explosion left no crater but flattened the trees and charred the earth in the area, which is strange if it had been a meteor. Sientists apparently discovered that fragments found near the site had traces of X-raidiation, and the pieces were covered in silicon, which is what man-made space craft use for heat protection. Also, in one of the fragments a screw like object was found. According to the Russian sientists investigating this strange occurance they said that it was made of rare earth metals and minerals aswell as a substance not found on earth.
Anyway, the conclusion that this program was trying to convey was that this was a nuclear powered craft, most likely of alien origin that crashed there. There was even a sighting which claimed that an "escape pod" burst out of the explosion.
Anyway, does anyone know what I'm talking about, and if so... IS there a logical explanation, or is this truely an "Unexplained Mystery" that gives credibility to UFO theories?
There were several other sightings and claims on the program but none of the others really stood out as inexplicable occurance as this one:
62 school children in Africa alledgedly saw an alien craft during a field trip. Not only that, but they claimed to have seen a small figure with a close fitting black suit observing them. One of the children said that the "horrible eyes" were the thing that stood out most, and that somehow they conveyed a telepathic message to these children. The description of the alien matched the classic look that artists and purported encounters claim... that is, the "grey" with the large black eyes.
Anyway, if anyone has an explanation for these two very strange sightings besides the normal "this was a hoax", or "swamp gas" since the setting definitely could not have supported such a way of dismissing the claims, as apparently physical evidence and mass sightings support them.
Thanks much ... I hope this is within the realm of this forum... I know it isn't precisely about bad astronomy but I hope it is close enough.
