Jupiter’s Galilean satellites #2 Europa and #3 Ganymede will soon conclude a series of four weekly dual shadow transit events. The final pair of shadow transits of this series will occur during the night of November 06/07. During these shadow transits, #1 Io will undergo both an occultation by Jupiter and an eclipse by Jupiter’s shadow. Prior to these events Europa and Ganymede will begin their own transits of Jupiter.
I’ve created three preview graphics for November 7 at 02:50 CDT (UT-5), one as viewed from above Jupiter’s north pole and a second as viewed from Earth. The third is an event timetable. They can be seen by clicking http://www.curtrenz.com/astronomical then going to the page for Superior Planets.
Descriptions and photos of these events would be welcome additions to this thread.
