    Universe's Energy Level

After listening to some Astronomy Cast I heard Pamela talk about how the Universe could one day collapse into its lowest energy state. My question is what does she mean by this, as it's a little vague? Thanks!

Someone else might have a better answer. I am no expert.

The Second Law of Thermodynamics is something I would study up on. Eventually, as trillions of years pass, the universe will continue to cool. Eventually all the stars will burn out and there will be none to replace them. Electrons will fail to change energy levels and neutrinos will unlikely oscillate any longer. The black holes will have evaporated and all the galaxies will no longer exist. Molecules will be quite rare. The neutron stars and white dwarfs will have all lost their energies. It will be a pretty dead place AFAIK.

Unless she is talking about a vacuum transition? Wikipedia has a False vacuum page that sort of covers some of it.
