According to Vulcanologist John Seach, the ash plume from 23rd eruption of Mt. Klyuchevskoy reached a height of over 30,000 feet and extended out-wards for over 300km.
This qualifies the eruption as a VEI 5 category (Plinian), basically something equivalent to the St. Helen's eruption of the 80's. So evidently this may be more of a significant eruption then it first appears.
