Well the satellite cable provider just lost a sale.

The bonehead on the phone says my husband's Social Security Number "isn't there."

This company demands payment via bank account (savings or checking), and of course SSN must be verified.

Husband is a U.S. citizen from birth. Should be no trouble.

Guess the satellite cable reps are smoking crack these days.

Or it was a scammer trying to get your number for nefarious purposes and such.

Someone called our office yesterday, said he thought that both me and the individual I work for were communists, and gave his name as Charlie Tuna. (Yes, the name of the StarKist tuna advertising mascot.) And then hung up before I could come up with a smart comeback.

In a job I once had, such a call would probably have resulted in an investigation...of me.

Gripe 1 - Florida has a system that allows any school district that recieves an A rating from the state, to start two weeks before the rest of the state. The past two years, we've had an A rating but with the F-CAT grading issues, they weren't sure if we were going to get an A, this year. To avoid any confusion, back in May, they voted to not risk issues and just start school with the rest of the state. At some point, since May, they got the A grade and decided to go ahead with the early start, without informing any of the parents. I just happened to go on the district calendar and discovered that they changed the starting back date to two weeks earlier. Unfortunately, that meant that we had to cancel our vacation plans.

Gripe 2- I don't know if it is like this everywhere but Florida schools make you re-enroll your student, every single year. When I went to school, you registered once and only went down to the school if information changed. It is a pain in the rear end when you have three different kids going to three different schools.

Gripe 3 - They only take registration forms on specific days of the summer. The high school and elementary school finally opened up a second day but if you can't make it down on either day, you have to come in the first day of school to re-register your child. The middle school, of course, has stuck with only one day, today. It's a beautiful then when every other 7th grader's parents are there trying to do the same thing.

Gripe 4- The district has all the registration forms available on the web site. I've always appreciated this aspect because I can download the forms, type in the information in acrobat, print it out, and I don't have to sit there for an hour, writing my address and contact info on 12 different pieces of paper. It does take slightly longer to do it at home but it's looks cleaner and I am not surrounded by 300 other parents complaining about the ridiculously annoying process. I did this all in the beginning of summer and marched into the middle school, this morning, with all the information I needed. When I get to the "forms station" I am informed that they decided to color code the papers so all the work I did was completely and utterly wasted. I had to sit there, anyway, and fill out all the forms a second time. The only typed form they accepted from me was the health form. Because I am spiteful (and admittedly childish) I filled it out as rushed and sloppily as I could possibly write. If they have a hard time reading it; sorry, I had it all typed out, nice and neat, but since the school district decided that informing the parents of new changes is not cost effective...

Gripe 5 - which brings me to my last gripe. They've made quite a few changes, this year. The first being the date that school was supposed to start. They no longer accept home typed documents and they also no longer mail out report cards at the end of the year. It was mid July, when I realized that I had yet to get my daughter's report card. I called the school and they told me that you have to come down and sign for it. I asked where this information was made available for parents to find this out and she responded, "right now, on the phone, when you called to ask where your child's report card was. Please don't shoot the messenger." None of these changes were made known. I understand the school is in a budget crisis. Printing out news letters costs money, stamps to send out information changes costs money. They do have a district web site and an individual school web site. Put up something, somewhere, so parents have access to information.

    Wow. :-(

I'm going to stop complaining about all the school zones (having to slow down in traffic; so many in this small city). It's the only hassle I have with schools.

Can't comprehend what parents go through. :-\

On Monday, July 30, I was completely caught off guard -- twice -- in traffic/trying to get home because of certain schools around here being open. :-o I took a wrong turn, went down 2 blocks; suddenly I'm confronted by a mini-flood of vehicles, moms and kids. >:-\ What??? They'd had school and were just getting out.

Thinking it was probably just that school (why?), I later came to major 6-lane road...only to then be confronted by school cross-walk guards. :-o

    *shrugs*

Usually school zones/lights aren't an issue anywhere until 2nd week of August.

My daughter has two children and is resisting the concept of a minivan, getting by with a Corolla . Ha.

I had the company that handles the stock purchase plan for my employer send me a one cent check because they kept screwing-up and leaving money in my account whenever I try to cash out the vested amount.

Last time, they kept a penny in the account. So, out of spite, I had them send me a check.

I haven't cashed it yet. I want it to sit on their books for a few months.

I saw this on the Risks newslist (http://catless.ncl.ac.uk/Risks/ ). A person got a bill for $0.00 from his credit card company, so he sent nothing in. The next month, he got a late fee of $35.00 for not paying his bill. Naturally, he got on the phone. His balance was under a half-cent but greater than zero ( $0.000 < x < $0.005).

    Code:
    If balance > 0 {
      add penalty payment to bill
    }

    send bill

That really happened to me just a few years ago. I had an annual $400 bill in three installments, and was billed $133.33 three times. Then I got a contradictory statement that showed $400 paid, $0 due and a late payment. Must have been that odd cent. I wrote a check for $0.01 to square up.

Or course, only a computer would think of spending twenty-odd cents in postage to recover one cent or less.

I've been wondering if an online payment could be made for $0.01 in cases like these.

Of course, it would probably be subject to a multiple-dollar service fee.

The next year I made sure that one of the payments was $133.34 (since I didn't think I could have written all the checks for $1.333333... ). Then the price went up and I dropped the service.

It's 12:50 p.m. local time, temperature pushing 100 F, our cooler isn't working. Husband's out there laughing at something on the TV, I'm check work-related stuff on this computer. He was supposed to be UP ON THE ROOF already, fixing the cooler. >:-( It's getting hotter in here, he's still tittering along to the TV, so I went into the living room and RAISED the roof. >:-( Get up there and fix it!

Before I pick up that stupid TV and toss it into the cul-de-sac.

*sigh* When I've had it, I've had it...

I'm unhappy that so-called weekly news magazines have become nothing but vehicles for opinion pieces. Once upon a time, these magazines could be counted on to provide additional detail, background and context regarding world events. Not anymore.

    Aaaarrgh!

I'm typing this on a borrowed computer because my new computer crapped out on me. Just weeks past the warranty, too.

Sister phoned 1/2 hour ago. Bad news from back home.

She's a technophobe, who can't get online and send a news link.

Nope, she's rustling through the newspaper; can't find it; did Russell (husband) toss it out already? Wait a minute {more rustling}.

    What is this, 1990? >:-(

She finally located it. Then she misspelled the person's last name.

Sis-in-law (50 and single) complaining she doesn't want to work full-time (she's been offered a full-time job); which she hasn't (by choice) since 2006. Meanwhile she complains about being poor and underprivileged.

Contrast that with wealthy friends, one of whom returned from a 2-week trip to Hawaii, including a cruise around the entire island chain...who comes back grumbling/complaining.
