And what were their post and user counts?

Unless the backend storage sizes are comparable your experience is useless.

    Overall, I like the look.

    However, the following things annoy:
    • Lack of distinction between post body and signature.
    • New posts button has gotten really small.
    • No bread crumbs at the bottom of the page.
    • The big reply button doesn't do anything.
    • You can't collapse your infraction list. Why must I be tormented by infractions that have since expired?
    • User names above their posts are now rather small and it is hard to see the distinct colouring of the Powers That Be.
    • The topic review has indistinct bounding for each post making them not as easier to distinguish from each other.
    • My location looks all squashed up against the side.

I do like multi-quote though. It's not as good as the one on a.net (you can't multi-quote an individual post), that I mentioned a while back, but it's at least an improvement.

A-hem. There's no such thing as an obscure Simpsons reference. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to take back our lemon tree.

I, for one, miss the old look terribly. Everything was so easy to read, you instinctively knew what the symbols meant, etc. Here, I had to stare at the symbols legend for a minute before I was able to discern no new posts - new posts, etc.

It looked classy, now it doesn't. And the smileys are downright atrocious , I mean, , I mean, . Yeah, that's more like it.

ETA - And the navigation bar at the bottom is gone. That made navigation a lot easier, especially on long pages.

Can someone tell me how to use the multi-quote? I fiddled with it some but couldn't make it work.

Click the multi-quote button for each post you want to quote, then click Reply With Quote

And then remember to turn off the multi-quote status for those articles when you are done. It persists.

Of the things I mentioned before, the lack of bread crumbs at the bottom is the most serious problem. I'm shocked and appalled someone actually thought removing them was a good idea.

Previously, quotes specifying the poster who was being quoted were italicized, but
quotes which did not specify the poster were not italicized. Now the latter are also
italicized. I would sometimes leave off the name of the poster if I wanted the text
to be un-italicized, for example, if I wanted to italicize some portion of the text.

I would prefer that it never be italicized.

I don't know what you are clicking for "multiquotes". The three quote things that
can be clicked, "Reply", "Reply With Quote", and a plus sign, all have exactly the
same URL, so I presume they all do exactly the same thing.

See the FAQ. Those icons are the vBulletin 3 style, the new ones are very similar. The different behaviour for the plus sign is probably javascript magic. Note the class="multiquote" and class="newreply" in the html source.

That assumption is wrong when the action is actually performed by javascript in the browser rather than on the server.

Okay, so although I didn't actually try them, they would all perform the same for me.
since scripts generally haven't been used on BAUT for anything that I've noticed except
advertisements, I turned off scripts a couple of months ago to eliminate ads.

Scripts were actually fairly heavily used, but in a very unintrusive way so you didn't notice how much work they actually saved the server.

One example is that doing a quick reply with scripts enabled didn't fetch the entire page of posts again, but rather sent the new post to the server and inserted the new post directly into the already loaded page.

As for removing the ads, AdBlock in Firefox works quite well for that

I would call the new version a change but not necessarily an upgrade, at least in the sense of user-friendliness for dumb-dumb users like myself. The Quick Navigation feature to the lower right is slower and more cumbersome to use than was the drop down menu we had on the previous version. It requires some scrolling that was not needed the old way.

We might have a bug in the post count (not like I need any more ). Actually, ABR. noticed it and commented in one of the game threads. But I noticed the same thing - I did a reply to post and it didn't seem to increase my post count.

P.S. But this Quick Reply did.

This is a Reply with Quote - we'll see.

P.S. That seemed to increment the post count. Ah.... I'm not sure.

One thing I have noticed, some posters are having a difficult time separating the name from the ranking. I've been called Kilopi and I've noticed it in someone else's post also. Someone may want to look into increasing the font size of the names, within the posts.

Wait until we're moved over and I've updated all of the maintenance scripts. Then we'll know if anything is still malfunctioning.

Since you want to compare guns:

    BAUT:

    Number of posts: 1673893
    Number of members: 77390

    Them 1:

    Number of posts: 2835521
    Number of members: 58273

    Them 2:

    Number of posts: 2375638
    Number of members: 210334

The other dozen were smaller than BAUT.

Uh, the URL to the forum is right now showing up as
    http://www.bautforum.com.php5-9.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com/showthread.php/100674-vBulletin-4-and-server-move/page2

Is that how it should be or do we have another vulnerability? That looks really, really odd.
(Opera 10.51 on Win XP, if that helps.)

This is a temporary domain that you're going to see until the domain name is fully switched over. It should change for everyone in about 2 days.

Fraser's welcome to the new server thread mentions it but not how it looks.

At least it's better than this morning when every page and link was just a message to go to some complicated URL that didn't work.

Edit: I guess Fraser types faster than me.

I am having trouble with some embedded images (some avatars, some smilies showing as broken links) and the "Attached thumbnails" aren't. (Chrome4.1 on WinXP)
