Well, the due date for my firstborn is getting really close (Sept 7th). We don't know the sex, but we've narrowed down a couple of names, on of which should be very familiar to a large number of posters here.

Boy: Quinn

Girl: Annarah (final spelling not confirmed)

A couple more that I liked were Arcadia (which got shouted down by everyone), Annala and Brynn

Just thought I'd share :)

Now Sept 8th is the first day of school and that could pose a few problems, especially since I'm teaching two new preps: grade 12 Physics ( I've taught that before but not for 10 years) and grade 9 math (taught before, but the course has changed since then)

I'm planning on taking the first week off at least, if not two weeks. This always poses a problem, especially since it's tough to get competent supply teachers to come in a teach physics and advanced math

Those names are cool. :) I myself have a penchant for old-fashioned, biblical names. If I had children they would be called something like [the Portuguese correspondent of] Peter, Mary, etc.

Itīs funny how the name "Yago" is famous down here. There is a wave of Yagos [on account of a local soup-opera featuring a character named as such - people obviously do not know The Bard]]. If only those parents were aware of the origin of the name...

Is it Iago from Shakespeare?

I have no suggestions about baby names Pete, but I wish you and your wife the best. We expect pictures!

Go for a September 5 birth. That's my birthday. Charles is a good name.

Disclaimer: This is my own opinion. Take it as you will. I mean nothing negative by the following statements.

Those are both nice names. Annarah is pretty, but it seems like a name that will have to be spelled to everybody, no matter what the spelling. A piece of advice that I saw at Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing (http://www.notwithoutmyhandbag.com/babynames/index.html) (which is an amusing site) is this: Put "Dr.," "President," etc., in front of the girl's name when you consider it. Annarah passes that test, IMO. I'm not trying to dissuade you from your choices, I'm just adding more possible criteria to the decision. :)
[/opinion piece]

Congratulations, and I really like both names.

One more thing: My mother's birthday is on September 8th. I recall her saying that she hated it when school started on her birthday. :) I might have to mention to her that you have it worse. :D

Just thought I'd share :)I personally would have no objection to Annala (I sometimes propose Bowel/Diarrhea for boy/girl names) but you have to be careful.

One sister was born on September 10, as was my grandmother; the other sister was born on September 9. One of my good friends was born on September 11. I am awash in September birthdays. And I quite like the name Quinn.

I quite like the name Annalise....:)

The meaning of the name Annalise is From Anna And Elise

The origin of the name Annalise is German

Alternate spellings: Annelies but I don't think I would want my name to be spelled that way...Anne lies..:(

Notes: Combination of the names Anna and Lisa
But your choice of names are cool too.

... Iago from Shakespeare? ...
Hmmm, not exactly one of the more pleasant fellows.

I know of a family who wanted to demonstrate that they were "all cultural like" and named their two boys Tristan and Tamino and their daughter Tosca, all of which are names of major roles in famous operas.

What a shame they didn't realize that Tosca is the woman's family name. Her first name in the opera is Floria.

Uups.

I rather like the sound of Verruca. :D
