The Zadko Telescope is a new one-metre telescope funded by a generous donation from James Zadko to the University of Western Australia.
It is located in a purpose-built observatory, close to the UWA gravitational research facility and a science outreach centre, about 70 km north of Perth.
One of the core science themes for the Zadko Telescope is the “transient universe”. Closer to home, the Zadko Telescope is scanning the sky for potentially hazardous asteroids, and is helping to inspire the next generation of scientists.

The Science Show had a segment on the Zadko over the Easter weekend...
David Coward describes the capabilities of the Zadko telescope, recently opened north of Perth, Western Australia. Zadco is designed to look at flashes of light from the far edge of the universe. These are gamma ray bursts. Some are the result of the collapse of distant massive stars. Zadko has been the only telescope to observe these flashes, some of which are from a distance of 11 billion light years. These flashes were produced at a time twice the age of the Earth and our Solar System.
