One general answer would be, when "properly" viewed, everything is politically incorrect.
Specifically for this, "cute" is considered by many feminists to be a put-down, for reasons such as it mentally links to "...girl" and is a description of the woman's physical appearance, therefore treating her as an "object". OTOH, per pure PC, "cute" can be applied to men with no problem. Go figure...
I've worked "with" a number of ultrafeminists. With one it finally got to the point where I had whittled down my greeting to "You sure look like you this morning." which then evolved into "Hello."
"Stamp out PC! It's the correct thing to do!" 8)

Trying to avoid blanket statements, some women view the term cute as an 'also ran,' like telling an athlete that their performance was marginal. Comparing cute with terms like beautiful, sexy or gorgeous will help you get the idea.

I don't know anyone who considers 'cute' to be the least bit offensive. And it is equally applicable to both genders. I've never known it to be a marginal term either. As far as I'm concerned, it's simply an informal synonym of 'attractive'.
In fact, as far as my generation and area goes, I think it's used by women more often than men. When growing up, the informal expression I usually heard from guys to describe attractive females was 'hot'.

Well I do not use in that context. I think cute indicates beauty that is lit from within by intelligence, thoughtfulness and honesty and compassion.

Back OT.... PC is becoming stifling. I consider myself polite and very respectful to other people, as I was brought up to be. Yet, around a month ago, I was abused for offering my seat on the train to a 40-ish year old lady. Apparently simple politeness is now regarded as demeaning to the recipient. :(

Casually, I tend to use "cute" as a synonym for "attractive." Strictly, I'd tie it in with having dainty or delicate features and also with a sense of approachability. A woman with a little, turned-up nose and one with a straight roman nose may be equally attractive, while I might call the former cute and the latter beautiful. Likewise, a woman with a smile and a friendly expression might be cute while one equally attractive but with a more serious expression might be beautiful.

Same here. To me, at first glance , a guy is either "cute" or "not cute" in a very generic way. I use any other more descriptive adjectives (handsome, distinguished, gorgeous, hot, good-looking) upon closer inspection. It always seems weird to me that a guy would refer to a girl as "cute." To me, the equivalent in that case would be "pretty." But what do I know about how guys think???

I think that while being a good technical language, English does not have enough words to describe other things. I think that the English words available are not adequate to capture what what I see first when I look at someone -- the spirit that lights up (or fails to light up) the rest of them.
I think that this is a distinct quality that English does not have words for because it is not easily defined, measured, or agreed upon.
Edited because I always forget to preview....

Also derogatory in Scotland where it means untrustworthy or sly. Don't know why.
Here Pteranodon would be a "bonnie lassie".
I regularly get into trouble in the States for my Scots habit of referring to everyone under the age of 50 as "boy" or "girl", maybe I should move to Oz.
Edit: The Oz reference was to a post I thought was in this thread but must be somewhere else.

No, it's the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in Yellowstone National Park. IIRC it was at Artist Point. My wife and I were there a year ago.

Most BABBers don't. Web space is needed to post your photo.
Lycus

Yes, I think so. Why?
Well, you just have to upload your picture to your webspace, copy its address, and then put that address into your post with image tags around it like this:
[img]http://address.of.your.picture[/img]
That's assuming the provider of your webspace isn't one of those free services (Geocities, Tripod, etc.), because they usually don't let you do that.

Nearly every ISP gives you at least 10MB of webspace. Just go to the homepage of your internet provider, and they should have instructions on how to upload files to your webspace, and you should be set. :D

Oh, that would be okay. I just figured that he wanted to have the picture appear in his post. You can't image link off the album, you can only put in a regular link to the picture's page. If that's all you want to do, Richard, then just fire an email at me.

Argh. Didn't even know we had a phot album and somehow my old mugshot got into it. I blame Humphrey for that, somehow. Lycus, mind replacing the one of me in the photo album with the one below? Thanks. :)
This is a much, much better image of me. Sunburned but happily sitting in the cockpit of a B-25 over the summer:

Well, my little joke was actually making fun of Normandy's posts of overexcitement. The cold shower was to calm him. The context isn't quite the same as what I suspect you took from it, and was not meant to refer to a picture. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but that is honestly what I meant.

Apologize for what? We had been joking around about SciFi Chick not having a picture for awhile, and now we can see that she's quite attractive. It was just me having a little fun. And I'm single now, so it makes no real difference in that respect.

Andromeda321, I am not sure how cold the water was. It was September, Nothern Denmark and windy--the water was cold--thus why my feet are buried in the sand. Having lived in Texas for 19 years, I would not go swimming at that temperature.
Incidentally in that particular place it is illigal to go swimming, as the currents pose a mortal danger, as this sign shows.
