More drought coming down for the last three days.
Now that all the reservoirs are inudated past their respective tree lines it's "low snow pack" measured in places not assesible without permission. I'm seriously thinking of some trespassing

Hey BigDon! What's this wet stuff falling from the sky? It can't be rain...it's June!
Lots of thunder, too. I just hope it rains enough to put out any lightning-caused fires.

We had a rockin' good thunderstorm here a few hours ago. The weather guys say we only average about 7 days per year with thunderstorms, and most of those don't amount to much. This one had non-stop thunder, funnel clouds and torrential rains.

Around 90F here in the Puget Sound region today. Unusual for any time of year, especially in June.
And off topic: the Hood Canal Bridge reopened almost 2 weeks early! Yay!
Edit to add:
They said on the late TV news that yesterday was the warmest in 340 days, which would put last year's high in June as well. Interesting, and surprising to me. June is often not all that nice here.
And the good weather we've been having contributed greatly to the aforementioned early bridge opening.

Boy, these humidity numbers get me uncomfortable. I think the comfort threshold would be 30%.
Wintry conditions down here. I mean, 9 C lows and 20 highs. I think that would make a perfect English Summer. ;)
Well, it's been a surprisingly wet month here in CO so far. Apparently, there was a tornado not too far from here last weekend too. Currently, it's 60F, mostly cloudy, and 70% humidity, which is quite odd when we get 15% humidity and hotter temps around here most of the time.

Yes, I know it is technically not Summer, but the weather is summer weather.
As mentioned in another thread (I've forgotten which one), the BA has said the solstices and equinoxes should mark the MIDDLE of each season, rather than the beginning. I sort of see his point but it really would shift things too early -- that would have summer begin in early May and there's a significant lag before summer really gets warm, for instance.
I'd just forget the astronomical events and go by our nice arbitrary months. Summer starts the first of June, Fall the first of September, Winter the first of December, and Spring the first of March. That's pretty much the way most people think of it anyhow.
And our local weather is continuing unusually warm and dry. My standard joke is that summer in the Puget Sound region starts on July 5, but it really has hit the first of June this year.

We are going through the "Big Wet" here (Brisbane.)

Had a pretty amazing storm last night / early this morning. Very heavy rain, wind, constant thunder--a real rarity for this part of Texas. If Weather Underground is correct, we also just set a single-day rainfall record in one storm, 5.42", which was set back in 1942. Sure, we've had much higher totals in the past (locals remember severe flooding in '98 and '02 well), but that was always spread over several days.

Snowing with temperatures hanging around freezing. We've had several inches fall since last evening and it is still coming down. We went straight from summer to winter with no intervening fall season. Now the wet snow is sticking to the trees and their leaves which starts to snap limbs off. Driving should be interesting for a few days.

Not that I really wanted it cancelled, per say, but it has been raining since Thursday and they talked about the cold front that was moving in after the rain. The air still felt wet and I had three children with bladders of children and did you know that cold actually shrinks the bladder? It's about to get interesting here. (Well, for me.)
The high tomorrow is going to be a dour eleven degrees farenheit with a windchill of around -5 to -11. Snow and blowing snow is very likely, yet only around one to two inches. But seeing as I live some distance out of town, those one to two inches of blowing snow can really impair visibility on these rarely maintained roads. The wind can pick up from a 12 mph. breeze to a sudden 25 mph gust pretty easily.
weather.gov refers to this as "blustery."
I'd say so.
I'd also trade these winters for the gloomy, week-long rains of the pacific northwest any day. Any time I see snow in the forecast I start to miss them.

Although I'm biased by living in the US, I think Fahrenheit is actually preferable for ambient temperatures, simply because the range of zero to one hundred so nicely approximates the usual range of ambient temperatures in the temperate regions of the globe.

I experienced -52 C once when I was working in Northern Quebec - I never want to feel that cold again. For the past few days, the fog has been bad, until around 10:00am. Yesterday, it was really bad in the morning and lingered until noon time. I've seen fog here often in the winter; but the fog density, these last few days, has been amazing. I live in a residental area and I could not even see the house across the street.
That's interesting about the bitter cold killing off beetle infestations. Here in Florida, we have lot's of nasty insects that love the warm(and often painfully hot) and humid conditions. Usually around late November, we get our first good cold front, and it rids us of a lot of nasty critters. A good cold front here, gets us into the 40's. When it really gets cold, it goes down to around 30F for a little while.:)

Hi, That is probably the reason I learned how to play monopoly so well! :)
I feel bad for the linemen who have to repair it.
I remember the great sledding we used to enjoy. A sled goes like a rocket under excellent conditions. Of course there is no course corrections save the ingeniously banked up turns we made for our crude luge run. That's about what it is.
Can you imagine a world class event involving "Flexible Flyer " sleds.....

The snow is slowly melting. I tore something off the bottom of my car trying to get out of the driveway (snow did it) and it turned on the check-engine light, so I'll have to get that looked at. So, I've been driving the truck (pickup), so currently hauling a load of snow around. It was parked in my back yard, loaded with bags of gravel I was about to put down before the weather came (bags currently under the snow...somewhere) so I drove it through approx. 2ft of snow (lots of rocking) to get it to the road, it being a bit higher off the ground than the car and having 4w drive.
Hmmm....all these people who've traded their SUVs for Hybrids might be re-thinking that decision now.....

It is 32 C outside (about 90 F) It is summer and I am about to head out to buy the Christmas shrimp ( it is a tradition here to have shrimp for christmas - why I couldn't tell you - they also like to have Morton Bay Bugs - an ancient relative to the lobster - only survives in the waters of Morton Bay near Brisbane.)
Also need to get the christmas cheer - plan to sit in the pool and drink beer... and with that...

Snow is mostly gone (except for some big piles made by plows that will take a while to melt). But, this morning we had some icy roads and plenty of accidents---including one in the parking lot of the shopping center where I got my morning coffee today! Gee...who drives fast in a parking lot---this person, obviously. Then, I nearly got nailed getting around the accident by someone running a stop sign to get around the accident--I guess if there's an accident, stop signs don't count (and my pickup HAD to be visible over the two shorter (in height) cars that were attached to each other).

Try to live near the lake...
We have anywhere between 2 and 32 inches of snow depending on what suburb (http://www.newsnet5.com/news/22110336/detail.html) you're in. And that's all lake effect and very little terrain dependency.

It got down to 30F in the early morning hours. It was 33F when I got in my car to go to work. Coldest day here in Central Florida, so far this Winter. This is about as cold as it gets here. A few years ago, I remember it going down to around 26F in the early morning hours. This whole week is suppose to be cold, with highs in the mid 50's and lows in the low to mid 30's. Our cold spells are usually brief, so this week-long cold period is pretty rare here.
My wife does not like the cold at all. I keep the house at 68F and she is freezing. Last night, we were watching the Jets/Bengals game and she must have had 4 thick blankets on. I laughed at her and told her to check out the Jet's coach, who only wore a sweater during a cold and windy game at the Meadowlands.
