Hello everybody! This is my very first posting, so I am going to use it say hello to you all and what a pleasure it is for me to be a member of this website. To be be honest, for quite some time I have been under the impression that a website called "Bad Astronomy" could not be anything good. However, just recently I decided to take a closer look and saw what it was all about. I think the idea is not only good but but much needed.
Now here is a question within a question: on which forum should I post the following question with any hope of getting any feed-back? This question is: at what distance from Earth would I have to be if one orbit were to take seven days to complete? Let's say that I am travelling in a spaceship with the mass of a Soyuz vehicle. I wonder if anybody can tell me that or tell me where I should post it. Best wishes from space-mad Lonecat! :lol:

radius, from center of Earth should be (G*M/((2*pi/(7*24*60*60))^2)^(1/3)

I think, where G is the gravitational constant 6.67*10^-11
and M is the mass of the earth- 5.9736×10^24 kg

154,552,226meters seems to be the answer, ie 154 thousand kms


Though I could be completely wrong...:D it's happened before.....

It's been a while since I have had any formal education in science.

Although my answer seems about right; it might not be, and anyway I didn't explain how I got it.

I just enjoyed the problem; trying to get back into learning about this stuff again.
