This photo of Jupiter was taken on 22-Jul-2008 using an EF-300mm lens with TWO Teleconverters !!
Jupiter was quite high in the sky (around 70 degrees up)
Seeing was quite good.

Equipment Details:
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi ,Canon EF-300mm f/4L IS USM
300mm lens + two(!) 2x Teleconverters (TC1=Canon, TC2=Teleplus)

Shutter speed: 1/50s
Effective Focal Length: 1200mm
Effective Aperture: f/16
ISO:100

Mirror Lock-up enabled
Camera triggered with RC-1 remote control
28 frames stacked with Registax

Wow, impressive, that's about what Jupiter looks like through my 4.5" reflector.

That's excellent...if I didn't know the setup I'd guess an f-ratio much higher than that.
