It could of been about 8.00pm I was about to walk inside and I just caught this flash in the northern sky it seemed to have a fire tail which may of burnt out and the white speck seemed to travel faster down to the horizon. Did anyone see or know what it was? PS I live Queensland on the coast in the Mackay region.

Sounds like a meteor leaving a smoke trail.

Hello, Meanderer!
How long did the whole thing last? If was about a second, or less, it was
almost certainly an ordinary meteor. If it lasted several seconds, and was
moving quite fast, it may have been an unsually large meteor. If it lasted
several seconds or longer, and was moving at something like the speed of
a jet plane across the sky, it may have been a bit of spacecraft debris
re-entering.

"Fire tail" and "burnt out" and "white speck" strongly suggest meteorite.
Happens all the time.
Driving between where I attended college and my parents' place, twice yearly, I would observe several each trip.
